I have a 38 yr old remington 1100 gloss birch stock with one bad place near the bottstock that purtrudes and drives me crazy. Any advice on what to re-finish this stock with after I try to sand down this "hump" ? Its high gloss would I best to leave alone? Thanks,

P.S. Any advice to get a good birch stock for a remington 1100? Thanks again

Matching the gloss after you are done isn't the hard part, it's matching the color. I have done it with some jusdicious mixing and matching with the little cans of MinWax, but it takes some care.
38 years ago, the factory was not putting birch stocks on 1100s. Not saying someone couldn't have done it, because everything known to man has pretty much been made available for 1100s thru the years. Back then you got the standard gloss finished walnut, or the upgraded wood on higher grade models from Remington. Probably the least expensive route for replacement wood of any type is to find a set on eBay, GunBroker, or GunsAmerica.
