The WASR's are Romanian and the Yugo's, are.. Yugoslavian? The Yugos don't have a chrome lined barrel, but are supposed to be a little better quality than the WASR's. Of course, I've seen a lot of people discussing how good their WASR is so who knows.

The Arsenals are either Bulgarian Arsenal or Las Vegas Arsenal... and from what I understand, those are different companies/factories.

Get the Arsenal-its a reverted Legion Saga in AK 103 trim
.if money the issue.Yugos are good bets assuming the build was in spec, and dome right.

The WASR is widely considered bottom of the line. I have one, and it hasn't given me a lick of trouble, but that seems to be fairly uncommon. WASR-10s were designed for single stack magazines, and are converted to double by Century. It appears as though they use a dremel to trim the mag well. Generally, they take too much off and it makes the magazines wabble (sometimes severely). I'd DEFINITELY inspect that rifle before I bought one. You're taking some fairly high risks by buying it online. They're about as accurate as any other AK I've fired.

The Yugo is built on an RPK style receiver, which is 1.6mm instead of the standard 1mm. Because of this extra thickness, it's much more durable (but also a bit heavier). Build quality definitely goes to the Yugo. One thing to consider is that it does NOT have a chrome lined barrel. Accuracy definitely goes to the Yugo though.

I'm having some problems with my Yugo, but I think my case is extremely rare. I can't find anything online that parallels my problem, and almost everyone I've talked to about this rifle is very pleased with theirs. One of my friends has one (convinced me to buy one) and it's a great firearm. He loves that rifle.

If I had to make the choice again (even though I'm having some problems with my Yugo) I'd take the Yugo.

That's my opinion anyway :]

Actually, the WASRs are entirely manufactured in Romania, while any Yugo you see for sale that isn't a Mitchell import is (re)manufactured here from cut up Yugoslavian AKs.

Check out the Arsenal rifles. They are/were having a sale where you could pick up a rifle for around $500.

As long as you can inspect a WASR prior to purchase to check for front sight cant, gas block cant, rear sight block cant and mag fit they are great for the $$$. Ugly but they work.

I've had my WASR 10/63 for three years and had no problems. It's a little rough looking but is 100% reliable with all ammo I've tried, even surplus stuff with corrosive primers.

I did examine it for canted sights, etc. before buying. It's a basic AKM but a real bargain. And a lot of fun!

I bought my WASR a couple of years ago-- I was (and am) money tight-- that being said, I went into it knowing all the rumors and facts associated with a CIA WASR 10--- I got mine on GB and as it was a fairly local guy, he let me inspect and shoot it-- which is unheard of usually. He told me that he wanted me to be happy with it--- I was. No canted sights, no mag wobbles-except with a plastic Promag (big shock), and even the Pmag still shoots with no issues. Mine has never ever jammed, and I have shot a couple thousand or so through it since purchase. Ammo wise, mine has no issues with any ammo-- even the soft primered WInchester stuff-- and mainly I pop Monarch steel out of it, as the local Academy always has it in stock.

If I would have had more money, I would have bought a "better" AK, and would never buy a WASR sight unseen- -unless it was a hell of a deal and had a good return policy.

YMMV when it comes to a WASR, but I am 100% happy with mine...oh, and mine is "pie plate" accurate at 100 yards on a bench, and it is minute of man accurate out to 300 yards in the prone or other supported position-- so for a battle rifle/assault rifle, that is all yo ucan hope for in my book. Mine has taken about 12 or so feral hogs in the last year or so, and --well, I am sure it can do yeoman service defending my little 2000 sq ft abode...

I have two very nice Sar-1s for sale on Gunbroker right now.....
The Romanians issued semi-auto only AKs to new recruits. That's what a Sar-1 is. It's a real military AK. The barrel threads and bayonet lugs were ground down so they could be imported into the US. Better than any Wasr I have ever seen.
