From only those of you that have personally shot the currently produced, cam block Ruger P944 .40 S&W autos, what has been your personal experiences as far as :

1. Reliabilty in all manners with quality, factory, JHP ammo ?

2. Practical combat accuracy inside 25 yards ?

3. Durabilty ?

4. Generably being trouble free in all / any manner ?

Thank you in advance

i had one of these and sold it to my father and he still has it. i never had any issues with it. it shot quite well and pretty accurate. the only reason i sold it to my father is because his p-89 was stolen and he wanted to replace it so i offered.

The Ruger P series of pistols are, generally speaking, built tougher than brick @@@@ houses, eat anything fed to them, and are acceptably accurate. The most numerous complaints I've heard are that the triggers aren't the greatest and that they're a bit "blocky" and difficult to conceal.

I carried a P95 for some time and thought it to be just fine. A friend had a P94 in 40 S&W and liked it, too. Until he got bit by the Glock bug. Anyways, if you're wanting a P94, go get one. It's a good pistol.

Mine has the swinging link since it is an older model, but it has been good over the years. No problems. Good pistol.

The pre-ban mags were only 11 rounds---so after the ban expired--Ruger never bothered going back.

Had one of the first ones in the 90's---never really liked the .40---so got rid of it.

Was looking at a new one recently---due to the ammo shortage a lot of times only the .40 was available----but the new P944 was priced at $525---sheeeesh-----what ever happened to the cheap Ruger?

At those prices--I can get a Sig Pro---Glock or M&P

1. very reliable
2. accurate enough inside 25 yards, 944 I shot was @ 10 yards
3. very durable
4. generally, trouble free

As mentioned, it is somewhat blocky. I shot it "ok" and do think it is a good pistol.

I would add that, for me, it did not feel as if it were engineered to fit the human hand very well and did not feel balanced. Mike

I had a 944t for a while, got rid of it and never really missed it.
Some observations
cons:
ergonomic as a brick
crappy trigger (esp. in SA mode DA wasn't that bad)
accurate to minute of paper plate at 25 ft (tested with bench rest to determine if this was human error or innate innaccuracy)
bulkiness reduces concealability
limited selection for holsters and mag pouches

pros:
extremely reliable with all varieties of ammo used
inexpensive ($360 new in 2002-03)

Slide Rails: Steel or Polymer?

Do the P series pistols have steel or polymer slide rails? One of my staff members is looking to get his first gun. We went gun shopping yesterday with the fellas and we found a brand new p-95 for $309 new.

He loved it and quite frankly so did I.

Steel or polymer rails...we didn't get to the "can I take it apart?" stage at the shop.

Ergonomics? All of the P-Series Rugers actually feel good in the hands to me. They point naturally, and controls are easy to manipulate.

Perhaps the real identifications is opinion.

I have several P-Series guns like perhaps 10, and have not found the triggers any worse than any other SA/DA pistols, like the S&Ws.

They are actually accurate, with or without a bench-rest, even my pre MkII P85 will shoot into 3"@ 25 yds.

There will always be some lemons, or people who don't/can't shoot a particular gun. That, however, is no reason to denigrate an entire line of pistols.

I've owned a P94 in both 9mm and .40 S&W. Both were 100 percent reliable and acceptably accurate. However, I no longer own either. Their triggers were very bad, even with a Wolff hammer spring upgrade. They also did not fit my hand all that well and were not well balanced. While they're good guns, there are better, comparably priced alternatives. In that price range, I personally like 3rd-generation S&W autos like the S&W 915.
