Yes; I'm the guy who asked what all you Ruger P89 owners think of your pistols...I'm also considering the S&W(flame suit ON!)9mm
semis called "value line"...specifically the Models 910 and 910s. I fired several rounds through a .40 S&W autoloader and found it very enjoyable, but want to stick with 9mm. So, am fishing for reports regarding reliabilty over the long haul...I plan to use it for plinking and occasional matches, where malfs are NOT acceptable. Thanks!

I have had a couple of S&W semi autos. Both were utterly reliable & accurate. I sold them both to finance diff't gun purchases and because I realized that the grip doesn't really fit me. On the otherhand, a buddy has a 6906 that he just loves & carries every day.

The value line is a pretty good value  If you want you can look at other guns also. Check with local shops..many places have LEO buy backs..mostly alot of holster time and not much shooting. You can find 3rd gen guns for a good deal and they are wonderful guns. 4 digit codes...3913, 6906 are the 3rd gen. designation. Many consider the 3913 to be one of the best carry's made..anywhere.
shoot well

If they fit you and you like them, go with it! Nothing else matters. They are reliable in my experience but just not to my liking.

Right now I like my Ruger P95 and Beretta 92fs for a 9mm but I am sure someone hates these guns. Bottom line is, opinions are like... well you know the rest.

The S&Ws aren't junk but I think there are better guns out there for the money.

I have a Smith 439 (second generation single stack 9) and it has been very reliable and accurate with ammo it likes. It has become my daily carry piece.

I have a smith 910. I had to put a new grip on it, but it is utterly reliable and I've had no problems with it. Its my favorite carry piece and is TDA.

Had a 39 a few years back and had no problems at all. Heard the 910's were just as reliable.

I have a 5906 that has been 100% reliable and is a great shooter. In fact it is the easiest DA/SA gun I own to transition from DA to SA, even easier than my Sig 229. It Is also one of the most comfortable guns in terms of grip style. Mike

S&W took a while to get their autos up to speed. The first generation guns (M39/59) usually shot ball ammo fine, but tended to choke on JHPs.

The second gen guns feed very well, but accuracy was off. I had a 469 that was stone reliable but lacking in accuracy.

3rd generation guns seem to have it together. I regreat selling my 3913 and have a 590? (aluminum frame). My 59?? loves Gold Dots and shoots as well as any 9mm on the market.

There are two different grips produced by S&W - one is flat (my preference), the other curved. Cost is low and only takes a couple of minutes to change the grips.

Due to the checkered history, these are available for low prices as demand is low as well. IMHO, the 3rd gen and 4th gen guns are real sleepers.

The 3913 is perhaps the finest concealed carry handgun made. Small but not too small. Powerful but not too powerful. Plenty of magazine capacity.:)

If they fit you and you like them, go with it! Nothing else matters.
Bingo.

I love S&W revolvers, but am not too keen on their autos. Doesn't mean they aren't good and work well for others, but I'm not a fan for my own uses.

Thanks for your posts! I find that the Model 910 straight backstrap grip just fits my medium/small hands perfectly....
From the mostly positive experiences(and the fact that I find the pistol to be ergonomic and pleasing to MY eyes, I'm fairly sure I'm going to get it. I APPRECIATE YOUR RESPONSES1

You ask about the value line guns. The only experience I have is a 457 in .45 ACP. It is an excellent weapon. Accurate and I have never had a jam.

BTW my favorite 3rd Gen Smith is the 6906. Awesome.

A couple of tips...after shooting S&W autos, I find that if I drop 20$ on a hogue grip...rubber...the contour of the back strap is much much better.....just an opinion. Also (I know you guys will correct me if Im wrong...) I think the 910 will take the 59** mags for up to 17 rnds of 9mm........only use MecGar or OEM mags.....

Shoot well

Purchased a sweet model 908 a couple of months ago for $400.....put over 2,000 rounds of nice, clean S&B ammo(115gr FMJ) through it at the range, and also about 50 rounds of Fiocchi 115gr JHP. This weapon is an absolute dream to shoot, eats up all ammo, and is a snap to clean. I also have the Hogue rubber wraparound grips, which are awesome.....never a problem with this baby: reliable, accurate, fairly compact....my everyday carry weapon.

I have a S&W M&P 9MM compact and a 40 cal. , had a feed problem, but a kind gentleman resolved my problem. Had the ramps polished. Now both are very accurate and reliable and of course fun to shoot.
