Am I Crazy? A Glock or M&P for CDP?

I don't.

I have a G21 and love the gun, but it's to big to hide, unless I'm wearing a jacket that day. If you can hide it and not print, then carry what feels good to you.

I have seen it done, and done pretty well. There was a Nationals Division winner with an XD45, to boot.
BUT...
I haven't seen anybody around here STAY with a striker fired CDP. If they really like the action, they tend to go back to 9 or light loaded .40 in SSP; if they like the calibre, they go back to 1911 for CDP.

I use a G21 in CDP and one of my shooting partners just bought a G21 SF also for CDP. There is no down side but it sure is fun to beat the Glock hating 1911 bigots.

Dave Olhasso won the Division Champion plaque in CDP at the 2008 IDPA Nationals, shooting a .45 M&P.

It's difficult to say that a plastic fantastic .45 can't be competitive when a really good shooter with one beats all the other really good shooters with 1911s.

Ol' Dave's shooting a Smith & Wesson, now. And he started out with Beretta.
Looks like he is a real good and versatile shot who goes where the sponsorship money is best.

Yes that would be most of the fun indeed.

The main reason I was thinking of going this way is that my main everyday carry is a G19 and staying with the same platform across multiple disciplines is good practice.

Yes, he was a big help to at least one of my (now-ex) Beretta shooting pals, before he jumped ship.

Hard to fault him, though. If you compare what S&W does for the action shooting sports vs. Beretta's poor investment. Maybe they just recognize that their handguns aren't going to be strongly competitive any more. (Ironic, that. Almost every major match I've shot in the last several years has been sponsored by Ruger. To date, I've seen ONE Ruger pistol in competition.)

But, yes, he's pretty zippy.

Strange, isn't it? Seems like they could pay a gunsmith to sit down with an SP9 and figure out how to give it as good an action as has been developed for the other striker fired plastic pistols.
I have READ OF but not seen Ruger GP-100 revolvers with competitive DA triggers.
Apparently Ruger does not see the opportunity for NASCAR type promotion of their guns through competition.

That ONE Ruger I've seen shot in competition was indeed a GP-100, and it seemed to work well for the guy. In fact, I think he won high SSR Marksman or something like that. Not that there are usually many revolver shooters to compete with...

Yes, they like to have their brand name on the banners, match guides, and t-shirts, but don't seem to care if anyone wants to shoot their product. Strange. They might as well be Pepsi or Chevy sponsoring the match for all the product involvement they have.

[Edit to say: Actually, in that match where the fellow shot the GP-100, we also shot around (some at ) a Chevy pickup. So I suppose you could say that Ruger and Chevy actually did have equal representation in the match! LOL! :D]
