Gods coununtry. IDAHO.
dose anyone have one or has used one. Im planing to put it on a contender barrel in 30-30 win and was wondering if they would stand up to the recoil.
tanks..

You would be better off going to WalMart and asking the sporting goods clerk to choose any of their scopes at random.:D

Seriously, NCStar is slightly above airsoft grade. If you want to waste $40 get a Bushnell at WalMart.

OR

You could get a very decent Nikon at WM.

I used one on my AR-15 in 458 Socom. It went out of focus and stayed that way permanently after a few rounds. I think your 30-30 contender will wreck it quickly.

A piece of pipe with some scotch tape on the ends is better.

I have a spotting scope from them that works fine for just spotting hits at 100 to 300 yrds. After that it is pretty blurry. It was cheap though and "good enough" to see if I really wanted a better one. So far the answer is no.

I put a short 3X9 on my AR....that won't have the recoil of the 30/30 though. It has
held up thus far...but I took it off an went with a Bushnell...my NcStar cross hairs are
too thick an covers too much target area, an the lens quality isn't very good...I'm just
going to put it on my GSG-5...maybe.....

A good Bushnell LER will hold up, just won't be the highest of optical quality.

I have a BSA on a Ruger Mk2, bought it that way. 60 dollar scope, looked it up. I'm not sure this thing would take recoil. I know Bushnell will. I'll keep it on the .22, should handle that.

Or, just spend the bucks and get Leupold, Burris, Nikon, etc higher end and live without worry. I've already learned my lesson on cheap scopes, though I do have a Tasco Pro Point I bought years ago for my .30-30 Contender. It's not a real tough scope, but I have the hunter barrel, ported, actually a compensator rather than ports, very little recoil. A .45 colt barrel detatched its reticule and I had to send it in for warranty. It's held up since, about 20 years now. If I replace it, it'll be with a higher end scope for sure. I won't buy the low end stuff anymore. You can get a good LER for 200-300 bucks now days.

I have an NcStar 4x30 on my Hi Point 9mm Carbine; marginal at best. Look at the Centerpoints at WalMart; they are really serviceable scopes at a great price and WalMart guarantees everything.

I have a NcSTAR Red dot type of scope on my Ruger MKIII and it works fine for that, but a .22 RF don't recoil to much either. I'd buy something better for serious calibers with recoil. LM

I can see from the replys that i would be better off to buy a different scope. I already shoot bushnell-simmions and burris and was looking for a cheeper way to go to set up another rig. thanks for the replys on my ??

I have a 4X30 on my AR-15 that I got for $15.00 on sale. I agree with the above, for $40.00 there are better options.

It has been a superb $15.00 scope for my AR.

I purchased the scope because I could not decide what optics I wanted, and wanted to try several. I got the 4X30 fixed, a 4X30 long eye relief, and a holographic all for under $50.00 shipped about two years ago. I still don't know what I like best, and am thinking about just going back to iron sites. But all three have acceptable clarity for the 100 yard line, and all hold their zero.

The late Jack Lewis used to mount an NCstar on various rifles for his tests. Gun World back issues show it working splendidly on a big-bore AR, and several other guns used for hunting wild pigs. He COULD have used darn near anything on his guns.

My own experience has been woefully lacking where NCstar is concerned. My lower limit has been Simmons .22 Mag scopes.

i put a NCstar long eye relief on a mosin nagant m91/30. it was cheap and decided to try it out. the power rating seems to be off. says 2 to 7 power, seems more like 1.5 to 4 or 5 power. the optics are ok on a good day. do not pick up the best in low light. but have fired several boxes of ammo through it on the rifle and it holds zero and is holding up. for a regular scope there are better options for the money. for long eye relief scope seems to be ok for the money, as there really isnt any in that price range.

For a 30/30 Contender, you need a better scope IMO. The recoil will most likely wreck an NCstar on day one. Save up some cash and get a good scope. I would recommend a Burris Pistol Scope 2x20. Built like a tank.
The thing about cheap scopes is that you always get what you pay for.

Have never used a Star but have a Lepers. Junk is a good word. Most of my scopes are Bushnells. I have had one on a Winchester 100 for well over 30 yrs and it is still fine. In fact I am thinking of writing them a testimonial about it. I have not moved the adjustments over twice in those years-can't gripe about that. Sure I would love to have all Leo, Swar., and Nikons but who can afford a dozen high dollar scopes. My old "cheap" scopes do well and I cannot gripe about their optics, zero, or quality.

I had an NC star red dot mounted on my HD gun at one time.

A couple rounds into the first range session the entire rear lens area just fell right off the back of the scope. The threads were totally stripped.
I thought I got a great deal for $25.
Would have been better spent on ammo.
