My usual 2:00Am trip to Wallmart For Ammo

It might be aggravating but I can understand that policy. The liabilities of someone getting shot in a late night barroom brawl and it coming back at Wal-Mart for selling ammunition late at night.

In our litigious society, today, it’s a real problem. I can see the day when Wal-Mart stops selling ammunition, period.

I was not aware there was any store which had handgun ammunition out where it could be picked up and taken to the front register.

Now if it’s Saturday night they really should sell .38 Special.
:D

The one in Marana did the same thing, no sales after 10PM. I didn't look at the new one here, never plan on being in that place after dark.

No such policy here. I have bought ammo at all hours. They walk the ammo up front which is annoying and also ironic since I have my chl and am carrying a loaded handgun anyway.
You think that's ironic, I once ran into a buddy of mine at the ammo counter. He just got a 10-22, they wouldn't sell him ammo to. So I bought some for him, as well as plenty for myself.

So, here we are, being walked to the door with the sporting goods guy carrying my buddy's new .22. I have a basket full of ammo, and a 1911 under my shirt. My buddy has a glock under his, as well as a J frame on his ankle.

The only way to add more irony to that is if he got the pink Cricket rifle instead.

My local store has that same policy--usually they claim that it is a Federal Law (you can hear the capitalization in the clerk's voice).

I was told that it depends on the city rule. If the Walmart is in a city that has 'curfew' for ammo, then they have to follow it.

One Walmart by me can't sell ammo after 8:00pm. Another one can't sell after 10:00pm. They are in different cities, right next to each other.

If you can get them to walk the ammo up to the front they will. They take the cash drawer out at 10pm so it has to be handeled up front.

This policy has been in place in every Wally world I've ever been to as far as I can remember. If I remember correctly, it's 10pm to 6am.

I was told no "pistol" ammo after 10pm.

If you have a rabid raccoon on your porch at 10:01, you are just out of luck.

According to the walmart near me in Clermont FL, there is a city ordinance forbidding the sale of any ammunition after 10PM.

If you want to snatch some ammo after a delivery, you have to show up at 7AM the next day, and make sure you are the first in line!

I had a Wal-Mart employee at the Chehalis, WA store (a scary, scary place in general), "We don't sell bullets after 10". I started to say, "Well, that's fine. I'm wanting to buy ammunition." But I didn't figure there would be a point in it :D

I'm sure this has everything to do with management not wanting to be bothered with opening the cabinet for people after the "closing" shift goes home. Seems kinda strange to me, though, considering the fact that those purchasing ammo are their customers.

. If they are changing their policy at a corporate level then there is not to much that I can do about it except write or call HQ and complain.. If it is a store policy (or a lazy manager) maybe if i complain to HQ they will tell them to knock it off.. Why be open 24 hrs and limit what you sell??

I suppose you could exercise your right to picket the store. :)

I had an employee tell me they couldn't sell me ammo with a gun on my hip.

I'd pull a spare mag off my weak side and show him the bullets in it. Then say, "I promise to leave them in the box since my gun is already FULL and I can't get any more into it right now."

"Now, why can't you sell me any bullets with a completely full gun on my hip?

I'll have to check that out at our 24 hour Walmart.

The liabilities of someone getting shot in a late night barroom brawl and it coming back at Wal-Mart for selling ammunition late at night.

Yeah, we all know that bar room brawls always happen real late at night, which is why many cities wont allow them to stay open past 2 am!
Seriously, as long as it's legal, the time of day the sale was made would have no bearing on liability.

I somehow doubt that'd help. They refused to sell .45 ACP ammo to a friend of mine because he had just bought a .22 LR and they said they couldn't sell someone ammo and the gun in the same transaction. They were perfectly aware of the ridiculous nature of the situation, but it's not about common sense it's about not getting in trouble for violating store policy.

Seems that during the peak of our ammo shortage certain customers would come in and buy every last box they had on the shelf. They apparently were turning around, marking it up and selling it to the unfortunate shooters that didn't make it to Walmart in time.
There is a special place in hell for those people.

My local Walmarts regularly refuse to sell ammo if I come in past 11:00. Darn them, for foiling my late-night impulse crimes!

I frequent 3 different Wal-Marts , The Dickson City (Scranton, PA) location , the Mattamoras PA, location , and the Wilkes Barre, PA location , all of the above , have sold me ammunition at all sorts of odd hours .. 2 .. 3 AM, the only real challenge, is tracking down someone to get it out of the case for me .

In FL, If u can find a manager After 9pm your lucky...
I was waiting for 2 hours... and I wanted all the ammo.... (for my gun)
but no manager... so the next morning I went and WOW ALL SOLD OUT!!!!
and it was the same person at the counter.... I WAS AMF!!!!!
but I kept my mouth shut....
