Tried to buy ammo @ Dicks' today. Coupon on the internet site said "buy one get another @ 50% off", but no coupons were available in the stores locally, and the internet site clearly said " not good for layaways" and, more important, "no reproductions accepted" which pretty well eliminates printing one off the 'net as an option. How convienent for them!

Okay, so my next attempt was to get the local Sunday papers and get the flyer that way...only the local papers don't HAVE the flyer from Dicks' in them this week. ***?

Went back to my local store to see the manager. Unavailable...big surprise. While on the second trip, i happened to see the 'regular' price of 9mm is now $8.99...that's up from 6.48 a month ago. Soooo, the 'sale' price with "buy one and get one" would now total $13.50 per 100. SOME SAVINGS, HUH?

To make matters worse, the local store rarely, if ever, has the 'sale' ammo in stock anyway, and the staff over there doesn't give a fat rats' hind-quarters. YMMV on this last point, but my local store near Freehold, NJ sucks!!

I have bought ammo and other supplies at Dicks for a few years now, and have hit a few real deals from time to time. However, after this morning, they've seen the last penny they're ever going to get from me. Playing games, false advertising, and bait & switch are a couple of the milder thoughts i'm having about them at this point. YMMV, but watch out!!

Sorry for the rant!

One comment, that's something that's common around here:

If you subscribe to the newspaper, you'll get all the ads, but if you go and buy one, it won't have as many ads. Also, ads may vary depending on where you live (my mother gets a different set of ads than I do, she lives about 1/2 hour away). Stupid and it sucks.

Cheaper than Dirt Too

 In July they had some really good prices on GoldenSaber. I had ordered some before. When I went to order on the net again the price was $12.00 more per box than listed! Gave them a call and the sales rep recited the paragragh in the catatog about a World Wide shortage of ammo.(refering to .223) I did not know the military used 185g bonded 45acp Golden Saber.I think they were just cashing in on stock they already had.

I agree

I was at Dicks today and also noticed that the in-store ad didn't include the 50 percent off coupon. Even with 50 percent off the second box it is not a deal. 40 cal was $13 per box, which comes to $19.50 per 100. Nothing special.

Evan...

Oh yeah, bait & switch alright...or just plain B/S as i like to call it :)

A buddy of mine in a neighboring state ( Pa. ) reports he can get the coupon in his area, although his local Wally-world stores still have Dicks' beat with the prices.

His local DSG 9mm with coupon works out to $13.50/100 while WWB is available every day over there @ Walmart for $12.88/100

Considering that Dicks' regular price for 9mm was $6.48/50 just last month, their current 'regular' price of $8.99/50 was deliberately raised high enough to eliminate any coupon 'savings'. Talk about playing games and manipulating the market!

I'd never, ever go to Dick's, for anything. When I heard that they bought out the Galyan's (where I bought my USP45F for $700) that I freuquented very often, and that they were getting rid of all the handguns. Especially after talking to the gentleman who worked behind the counter for as long as I'd been going there and who sold me my USP told me he was going to quit because of it. Usually I don't let politics effect me like that (although I do feel guilty sometimes eating Ben and Jerry's and supporting those leftwing nutbags  ), but after that I decided they'd get none of my business.

My buddy in Pa. just cleaned out his two local Wally-world stores of their stock of 9mm @ the $12.88/100 price. He and i will now be set for quite a few of our future range trips. I'll just reimburse my friend for using some of it for my practice ammo when i go over to see him. Dicks' can stick their game-playing and bait & switch tactics up their collective colons, along with their higher prices.

Dick's dicked Galyans a local company that was great to do business with. Galyans went out of business by selling off to Dicks.

Dicks then proceeded to gut the firearms section of anything 'evil' and now have nice skquerl guns and deer huntin' shotguns, and a slim selection of rifles. No handguns, no EBRs, only ammo for what they sell.

I don't buy from Dick's, I don't like their policy on firearms, don't like their other merchandise, Galyans had neat camping and backpaking tools even
if some of it was for yuppies.

When I was looking for a Camelback for a solder going to Iraq I got nowhere with Dick's, I'd went their because they were last on my list. I eventually got it from Lightfighter who bent over backwards to get it to the solder.

Recently Gander Mountain opened a store in the area and I've bought two pistols from them so far and *gasp* they have S&W EBRs and ammo, a wall of ammo! And they get in surplus ammo! And their selection of merchandise approximates Galyans though Gander has some off road vehicles.

eval...

Yes, i've noticed that too, they only seem to have ammo for the guns they sell, but almost nothing else. My local store rarely even had THAT in stock, but none of that matters to me now. After what they tried to pull this past Sunday with the coupon thing, i will never shop there again, and i hope a lot more people read this thread before they go out on their next ammo or gear buying expedition, and decide to shop elsewhere!
