I want others to watch the video very carefully and tell me what you see. The news reporter says it was a Glock but It definitely looks like an XD.

From the sticky at the top of the page:

Posting links: Don't post a link to a news article and let it go at that. Please post the first paragraph or a summary of the article. That would help members decide if they want to go to the linked article for the remainder of the story.

Difficult to say, looking at the frame, it could be either. The Evidence bag has a black mag in it, XD original Mags are Stainless, but you can buy aftermarkets in black, so it's inconclusive. Chances are the report comes from the police report, which will likely state exactly what the firearm is.

He was handling it outside because he was checking it with the skycap, that's where their desk is. You have to clear it before you check it.

SLC INTL isn't the greatest place for this. For a few years, whenever I went, I would call their security guys for clarification on where I was allowed to carry. I got a different answer every time, no one knew what the law was, and it has only been with the last year or so that they had it marked correctly in the proper place. (For a long time they had signs up indicating that the entire facility was banned, when actually it's only past the screening stands.)

I THINK, this was a rookie who was flustered at the idea of doing everything correctly without breaking any laws or looking stupid, and got the procedure wrong. Guess we'll see what happens to him.

That is an XD. At 0:53 you can clearly see the cocked status indicator at the back of the slide. And there is no way in heck the gun owner "fumbled it, dropped it, and it went off". Somebody had the grip safety depressed, and actuated the trigger. Plain and simple. XD's don't just go off.

It's a good thing nobody was seriously hurt. This is a prime example of why you should TRIPLE CHECK the weapons you fly with before you get to the airport. Also, that crime scene investigator needs to learn how to rack a slide ;)

I was watching the video and and my eye caught one particular angle that did not look very Glockish. I watched the video frame by frame and found one particular angle that did not resemble a Glock. Also, he said it was dropped and went off.Everyone knows Glocks don't go off when they are dropped.

It wouldn't surprise me if the moron who owned the gun didn't even know what brand it was.

Like I told my girlfriend, my gun holds 11 rounds. The box the ammo comes in holds 20 rounds. There were 9 rounds in the box when I started, and the box was full when I was done, AND I triple checked the gun anyway to make sure it was unloaded AND I locked the slide open in the case anyway AND I did all this BEFORE I even left for the airport!

For anyone looking closely, did anyone think it was kind of funny that the gun they're playing with doesn't have a barrel?

It's at 52 seconds in the main piece...

Here's a still too...

Yea, looks pretty XD-ish to me. Funny because of my earlier thread.

XDs even have loaded chamber indi-macators. Proof that all the safeties on earth can't prevent stupid.

Question, how many cops does it take to clear a gun?

Proof that not all cops are gun guys-but still should know better (nice way to pinch the hand):

Officer, why is your finger on the trigger?

Well since the damn gun has no barrel or guide rod, I don't think it's likely the one that discharged, because we all know that the media always tells the truth and is accurate.

Check out the pic I posted, no barrel, or the one 35Wailing posted, no barrel, you can see the cutout on the bottom of the receiver, in the second pic, so where are the barrel, recoil spring and guide rod.

Sheesh!

The average Glock owner should be able to identify Pic 1 as being NOT a Glock. There's an extra line extending along the side of the frame (or slide) that is not on a Glock.

It's not unusual they called it a Glock. To many people, Glock is a gun style more than it is a gun brand, and they couldn't care less. Unfortunately, this piece of misreporting will add to the Internet rumors about Glocks and will be tattooed on the minds of Glock haters, even though IT'S NOT A GLOCK.

"A skycap was accidentally hit in the foot by shrapnel from a gun that accidentally went off at the Salt Lake International Airport Thursday afternoon."

Sure it did.

The gun owner obviously wasn't fondling the gun inside an airport any more than he had/wanted too. This AD was a "real" one and not some doofus handling the gun inside a bathroom stall.
What's important now is how can they turn this into something worse. After all nobody got hurt. I mean how can they waste tax dollars and more time like the Gov't is good at?
Oh yeah this: "I'm bored let's try to ruin somebody's life some and use tax dollars to finance it. At the least, it will inconvenience them for some time."
The city prosecutor will screen the case for potential charges.

I put a cable lock through my semi-autos before I put them in the hard-sided case for flight. This makes checking the chamber quick, easy & safe once I'm at the airport. Still obey the four rules, but it helps ease the mind of TSA Agents & Skycaps.

I am afraid I must raise a great big reg BS flag on this one. They WERE HANDLING a gun. WHILE they were HANDLING the gun, the gun went off. The gun went off due to the HANDLING - and due to the fact that the dufus handling the gun THOUGHT INCORRECTLY that the gun was unloaded.

There is nothing accidental about that situation. It is called NEGLIGENCE.

Bullseye! This is a neglegent dischard due to the owner, or possibly sky cap, pulling the trigger. No booger hook on trigger, no BOOM!

This is exactly what I was thinking. If I'm going to leave with my gun in a case, whether to the range or anywhere else, I lock the slide open. It's a pretty good way to know for sure that the chamber is clear. I have difficulty understanding how so many people have ADs because of 1 round left in the chamber.
