CHP Wait Time in Virginia

Oh really? I live in Arlington. First hand expirience here. First of all it goes over 45days you have to call and ask about it, then they offer you the 90 day option. I asked what about self stamped envelope? Nope, you have to pick up. Its a small inconvenience so who really cares if they didn't follow the letter of the law. Its the proximity to DC rubbing off I think.
I apologize. I thought it was the same though out the whole state.

Just out of curiosity, the ones of you whose permit was mailed to you, was this a first time permit or a renewal. It seems like different cities have different regulations.

I'm planning on getting my CHP in Roanoke City this month... but my Driver's license address isn't accurate (changed it with the DMV, but no new license yet)

Am I correct in assuming that I'll have to camp out at the DMV before they'll accept my application?

I'd mail in the application now and wait for the driver's license to arrive. It shouldn't take very long.

IIRC, Virginia does not require a driver's license in order to get carry permit. :) Hey, we have lots of stupid laws so it wouldn't surprise me much if I was wrong.

8 days when I lived in Surry Co. 3 weeks when I moved to Chesapeake. Pick up from Court house both times.

Bedford county, delivered the application to the court clerk on Monday, had my permit in the mailbox Friday.

True, but they do require you to have a valid government-issued photo ID. For most folks that's a DL.

Dino, did the DMV give you a paper card with the address change on it (or let you print one if you did it online)? That should be all you need to show the address change. If you've recently moved they might take a utility bill or something to prove residence, but check with the court clerk to be sure. I poked around the Roanoke city gov't website and couldn't find anything about CHPs.

I dropped off my renewal today at Spotsylvania Courthouse. The clerk told me three weeks. I filled out a self addressed envelope to mail my permit back. If I take it back to the courthouse when I get it, they'll laminate it for me, free.

Just so long as they didn't make you supply (or pay for) the envelope and stamp. That's an extra-legal requirement and not allowed. While it may not be a big deal, we're committed to not letting the counties add on little "requirements" that are not permitted by the statute.

When I realized my permit was going to expire on 4/27 and only had 8 weeks left on it, I called the court and asked what the wait was looking like. Six weeks. So I mailed the form and fee and waited. It was approved 3/12 and I received it in the mail a few days later.

Now that's fast for the City.
