I saw it and was delighted by the extremely slim profile of these pistols. I heard but cannot confirm that they have full length rails. How reliable are they? Would you recommend one? What about price?

I would recommend the Walther Forum and the PPS section for the biggest bang.

IMHO I would rather a Kahr PM9 than Walther in 9mm, look at the dimensions, weight and round count. In .40 I might go with the Walther.
If you are going to IWB then the Walther may be your cup of tea. If you are thinking about pocket carry, forget the Walther. Ergos aren't that great with the Walther either IMO but that's a personal item.

Go for it! Seriously. If you do a little searching you will find all the info you want (and a whole bunch of people locked in an endless Walther vs Kahr debate). I personally love mine and carry it every day. No problems after about 2000 rounds and very fun to shoot.

The walther pps is my main ccw. I have carried it for over a year, and have 1000 rounds through it no problems at all. It is too big for pocket carry, but is oh so sweet for iwb. I highly recommend them, and I shoot mine more accurately than my Glock 19.

I've got two: one in 9mm and one in .40 S&W. I've never experienced the slightest of hiccups with either one ion two-plus years. The 9mm is in my daily carry rota; you can't find an easier handgun to carry and conceal, IMO, and the quality and accurace, as well as the reliability, are second-to-none.

BLASPHEMER!
Seriously though, ergonomics is so personal that the only answer is to hit a rental range or try someone's personal PPS.
For me, the grip seems to be made for my hand, which taught me that what I need is thin single-stack guns to be happy.

PPS in 9mm is my EDC, with the 6x flush magazine and generally an 8x reload.
THE GOOD:
It runs reliably on pretty much any ammo, is easy to clean, is well put together, and does have a little rail under the barrel, which perhaps I will mount an espresso machine on someday.
THE BAD:
Magazines are expensive and hard to find, it is hard to find one to try before buying

Dig through threads I started, I posted a good review of my PPS carry setup a while back.

+1 on BFD's comments. BFD knows his Walthers.

You also might want to visit the Walther Forums and browse through the PPS sub-section there. You'll find lots of reviews, comments, discussions about accessories (lasers, holsters), etc. You'll find it here:

Happy hunting.

I was going to buy a Walther PPS, but when I learned this $600 plastic gun comes with only one magazine (mags are $50 each) I decided to withhold my money.

Thanks for the help.

The one mag policy is a kick in the pants, mine came with two, I might have kept looking if it only came with one.

Still feels like it was made for my hand, which is impressive with my monster-hands and the 6-round mag.
Maybe look for used with extra mags?

really? you don't think it's easier to conceal one of the pocket 380's that is much smaller? i get that you love your PPS, but be realistic :p

In my opinion, based on my experience over the past few years with a PPS in 9mm, the gun is superb. It's 100% reliable, very concealable (and in a major caliber), as is stunningly accurate for a gun its size or much larger.

While we all have our issues, but to me passing on the PPS because it only comes with one mag is a very unfortunate choice. If I could only have one handgun it might well be the PPS.

I agree. I understand that it sucks to only get one mag (especially when that's coupled with the thought of expensive mags), but that sure won't stop me from buying an awesome gun. What it will do is make me hunt for the best deal, and with a little patience you could probably cancel out that extra dough for another mag.

Plus, it ships with the 7 round mag, and there's really not a noticeable difference in concealment capabilities between the 6 round or 7 round mags IMO. The only use my 6 rounder sees is when it occasionally comes out of my glovebox and into my pocket in a bad part of town. And when it comes to the 8 round mag, well you're gonna have to get that one separate anyhow.

When I got mine it came with a 6 and 7 rounder. I wish it would have just come with two 7 rounders. I assume some folks carry exclusively with the 6, but for me it has no real advantages.

I agree, shopping around helps. I bought mine very lightly used and saved a good penny. It also came with the six and seven round mags if I recall correctly. I now have the eight and more six and seven rounders. Mags around here are not hard to find. I also find the six and seven round mags very comparable in terms of concealability.

I would also add that at first, before I had one, I found the PPS to be less than desirable. I would pick it up at shops and think to myself "bleh". I've had great success with my P99C and SW99c and really didn't see the need for the PPS and found the ergonomics to be inferior. Running across that used PPS got me to take the plunge, and while at first I didn't find the ergonomics to be all that good, when you are consistently shooting super tight groups at 30 yards from the git-go a lot can be forgiven very quickly and the gun can get to feel mighty good with all things considered.
