I use this dry cleaner and got to talking to the owner is an immigrant and a really cool guy if he didn't work 14 hours a day 7 days a week he said he would take one of my pistol classes. He also has no prolem with people who carry guns in his place of business.

I asked him if I could place my brochures for CCW classes by the door and was given permission. I placed them out and there they sat for over a month (I honesty don't think a single page was taken, but they were available) Anyways, some woman described as a middle aged white lady expressed concern over the brochures and was upset that he was promoting guns. He didn't want to get in the middle of a political debate and appologized to me but still removed the brochures.

I am not cross with him - I realize he has bills to pay and cannot afford to piss off a lesser intelligent demographic. I am annoyed at the woman - it's not her concern but decided to be a busy body. Apparently she is opposed to safety training. :banghead:

Too bad, but it is her concern as much as it is ours to email Starbucks to let them know how we feel about their stance on guns.

I hope you can find a way to make something beneficial out of this situation.
 
That is too bad. I understand the drycleaner's stance but it's a shame he wasn't convinced the course was about safety and therefore didn't have the mindset to try to convince the lady that anything that promotes safety can only be a good thing.
 
If the owner is Korean, remind him of what happened to the Koreans in Japan after the Great Kanto earthquake in 1923.

Then remind him of what happened to the Koreans during the L.A. riots after they were forcibly disarmed.

I've known quite a few Koreans and history weighs heavily upon them... frequently heavily enough to override the bullying of idiots.

You might want to give him literature to give to his friends.
 
That's a pretty big assumption there, lol.

All depends where the OP lives......when I lived in the Seattle area I'd estimate 95% of all dry cleaning stores were operated by Koreans. The same as most of the 7-Elevens in the area are Indian-run. I recently moved to eastern Washington & was honestly surprised when my local dry cleaner & 7-Eleven were both run by caucasians.
 
Zombie_Flesh I think your dry cleaner friend is a little to worried about trying to please One stinking customer if she was the only one who complained after an entire month of your Fliers sitting there .

You should have asked him if he had chosen to but up a NO CONCEALED FIREARMS sign as most states CCW law allow for and had you been the only customer to come in an complain about leaving your gun in the car to drop off you clothes would he have been so quick to remove that one for you ?

Guys gotta learn to stand up for his rights or his migration to America to have a "Better life" means nothing as he is still bending over for Bully's even when they don't use force on him .
 
If it were me the next time I visited I would bring the complete Constitution of the United States of America including the Bill of Rights , printed out and suitable for display.

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

If it wasn't something I cared much about I'd do the same thing. Not his place to convince the lady... just pull the fliers and keep bringing in the money...

I have a more harsh opinion about people who are so easily "offended" by free speech that they have to impose censorship on everything they contact that isn't to their liking... but that's a different topic altogether.
 
How come the owner is more concerned about angering the busybody anti hag than he is of angering you?

Would be the last time I did business there and would advise other gun owners the same. That is the treatment he is afraid from the hag, but doesn't expect it from you?

Chances are it wasn't top of his agenda, like it is with us enthusiasts - but keeping a customer (possibly multiple customers) in troubled economic times might well be. His shop, he can do what he likes.

Uh... those were the ones that were standing on the roof tops with rifles. Of all the people the died in the those riots, "Asians" were by far in the minority of people killed. People of other races were also disarmed for doing the same thing.

To turn this into a race issue is in poor taste at best and being that the numbers are so low, not a very good example either. :(

History doesn't go away because it makes you uncomfortable.

Twice in one century to be made helpless against bigoted mobs is twice too often.

And by the way, the last time I checked, Koreans and Japanese were of the same race. That however didn't stop Japanese from lynching Koreans after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923.

It doesnt make me uncomfortable at all as I was clarifying and rather than sensationalizing. Regardless.... it was reprted in the L.A. Times that 2 Asians were killed during the riots.

And how did the Japanese get involved now?

Comparing Koreans to Japenese and vice versa is a very good (and quick) way to earn a trip to a hospital.
I think the same goes for many other groups.

I thought the Koreans were the ones standing on the roofs of their businesses with guns fending off the rioters.
 
Yes and no. Do we agree with her? No. Are we trying as hard as we can to make people think the opposite of what she does? Yes.

Ask yourself this. What if SHE had put out brochures for a community meeting to discuss controlling crime through stricter laws? What would you say to the shop owner? How many of us would be yelling at you to tell him that you can no longer do business with him because he supports taking away rights?

This is a competition of who does this the most effectively. With our friends and neighbors. If this shop owner left out the brochures because of unfavorable comments, but at the same time became one of your students and a gun enthusiast, I would still call it a win.
 
In Southern California about half of the dry cleaners are Korean. I know. My wife is Korean and she once worked at the dry cleaners convention. They hired her to hand out name tags because she could speak the language.

I think it is common for certain ethnicities to concentrate in a particular industry because it is easy for them to form associations and gain support, economic, professional and moral.

Also, don't compare Japanese and Koreans. There's lots of animosity between those nations. This redneck can attest that.

Italians and Slovenians are of the same race but different ethnicities.

There was no "comparison" between Japanese and Koreans.

There was an accurate historical citation of acts of mob violence against Koreans who were disarmed and unable to defend themselves, first by Japanese after the Great Kanto earthquake of 1923, then during the Rodney King riots in L.A. The Koreans in L.A. who protected their businesses with firearms were forcibly disarmed, after which some of their now defenseless businesses were destroyed by rioters.

There was and is a substantial ethnic Korean minority in Japan. They're still widely despised and discriminated against. They're just not commonly lynched anymore as they were after the earthquake.

History is your friend... unless ignorance serves you better.
