I'm thinking about getting in touch with my femine side :uhoh:

jk jk I know there are some ladies in the THR ranks, and some guys with hot shot wives/gf's. If you are one this thread is a request for you to share your experience.

My fiance is in need of a new purse because her current one is on its last leg, and lets face it, she isn't going to say no to a new accessory :)

I would like to know what your experience is regarding any or all of the following:

What gun fits best in the purse you/she have/has? (this question is my primary objective)
Is there room dedicated for ammo beside the pockets and compartments that are to be used for her belongings?
What did you look for in the bag- did you get it? What would you have liked that is missing?
How quick is the draw?
How would you rate the quality/durability of your/her bag?
Does the bag come with service (replace/repair)?

Here are the sites I've found, any others?
coronadoleather.com
usgalco.com
guntotenmamas.com
ladiesprotection.com

Thanks in advance

I bought my wife the one from Coronado leather. She likes it a lot. Purse carry has its disadvantages though. It would be a lot easier for her to become separated from it than carrying on her person, especially if it is the reason for a criminal attack.

I bought my wife a Galco purse about 10 years ago for over $200. That's not bad at $20 a year for a purse.

She replaced it this year with a Coronado. From my experience, the Coronado is equal to the Galco for about half the price.

Thanks smince, thats the kind of information i can take to the bank :)

I am a guy and I use a unisex bag that has a built in holster that works well with my 1911, my P-11 Kel-Tec, Model 59 Ruger and my Model 10-8 S&W Revolver! It also has an elastic strap to hold a spare magazine. The zipper for that compartment is "lockable" but is not a great deterrent I am afraid. It has plenty of pockets and pouches including an External cell phone pocket and a few loops for clipping key-rings etc. to. I got mine from E. S. Ramey but I see their web Page has gone MIA. It was not their brands though, just something they sold. I can't find a manufactures label on it right off. Pictures will have to do. I have been carrying it for a few years now and it is wearing very well. I DID replace the slender original strap with one from an old Laptop bag to better spread the weight and to aid in retention and as it made a great handle if you needed to beat someone with your purse! LOL

My wife has one she got at a gun show several years ago. No idea the brand, but it has a seperate zipper compartment for her handgun. She likes it better than any other way she's ever carried.

Purses are probably the most common target of thieves. A gun is not much use if it's in the bag just snatched away by a criminal. Even if it has a strong retention strap, it's going to be tough to get access to the weapon while struggling with an assailant.

Coronado makes some nice leather jackets and vests tailored for concealment, some of which are suitable for ladies. These contain quick access invisible pockets for handguns. They'll even tailor the garment for a particular handgun and for the size of the buyer. The prices are quite reasonable for the high quality.

I've been wearing a Coronado vest for over ten years. One of the best "gun" buys I ever made.

I don't know much about purses. I do know that women are very picky about purses. The gun-specific purses (purses made by holster makers) I've seen are pretty ugly, and most women aren't going to want to carry one (JMHO).

So my advice would be to buy a larger, very expensive name-brand purse, and then have it modified for a gun-specific use (special compartment) by a professional tailor or sewing person if necessary.

My wife's leather gun purse has a separate pocket with a magnetic catch. I don't know the brand name. Whichever one you get her, make sure it doesn't have a zippered pocket and does not print the handgun. In Georgia a holster is still required, which helps with concealment, even though I'd rather she not have the added drag. Your fiance needs the discipline to not get separated from her purse at any time. Also, work with her on pulling the gun safely and quickly.

I had my purse snatched some years ago. That experience was enough to convince me that I'd never carry a gun in a purse. If I didn't want to carry in a holster, I'd use a fanny pack.

I would never put my gun in my purse. Ever.

If you want to purchase a gun purse be sure to buy one that duplicates an existing favorite purse. That way you're replacing an old favorite purse with a new enhanced capability purse. Easy solution for the fashion challenged gifter.

I believe my wife has a Galco. It was expensive but quality. It is several years old but still looks new. To answer your questions:

What gun fits best in the purse you/she have/has?

Small guns! She has a Bursa Thunder Plus .380 in there and that is pushing it for size. The bigger the gun, the more difficult it is to pull it out of the zippered pouch.

Guns without a lot of sharp edges are a plus for drawing.

Is there room dedicated for ammo

No. You can put an extra mag in the main compartment but due to its weight it will promptly fall to the bottom and be impossible to get to quickly. The Thunder Plus carries 15+1, and one way or another I think the situation will have resolved itself by the time she uses them all. I want her to draw the gun and dump the bag.

What would you have liked that is missing?

No complaints from her.

How quick is the draw?

It is not fantastic. See above about gun size.

How would you rate the quality/durability of your/her bag?

It was expensive, around $250, but very good quality.

Does the bag come with service (replace/repair)?

I don't know as it has not needed anything.

I am not that concerned about a purse grabber. Someone who wants the bag and then to run is not a huge danger to my wife. Someone more interested in her than her purse is more my worry. IWB is great if your wife will do it. Mine won't. A concealed purse is good for my wife because the gun is not at the bottom of a regular purse, probably in an awkward position to deploy and full of lint. And her purse is always close. The zipper keeps it out of sight.

My wife's leather gun purse has a separate pocket with a magnetic catch.

I didn't see this option when we were researching. Sounds like a very good idea. Zippers suck.

My bag rides across my chest and it STAYS there. If someone is gonna snatch it, they are going to have to deal with the 6'1" 300lb teed' off Cajun that is attached to it! NEVER bag carry off the shoulder! ALWAYS carry cross chest! In a restaurant, I may put it on the chair next to me but when I do, I always put the strap around the back of the chair so that they can't just grab it and go and I am very aware of my surroundings.

Wow, maybe my fiancee is a bit of a fashionista, but she'd never be caught dead carrying those
