Snake gun - what to get?

Ricochets???

For all those advocates of using bullets, any concerns about ricochets?
Where I live it's awfully rocky. I'd be concerned about a rock maybe just below the ground surface sending that round back at me at such close range or off in some direction I didn't intend.

I live in Montana and have had many rattlesnake encounters on our property over the years... 30+ rattlesnakes...
The CCI shotshells are the way to go for sure. I've used them in .22, .38, .9mm, & .45 auto. The only ones that didn't stop one in it's tracks are the .22's.
The most recent snake I got, just a few weeks ago, was with my 9mm at about 7 or 8 feet and it worked beautifully. I usually keep 2 shotshells on the top of the magazine (although I never "needed" more than one) and the rest filled with good hollow points just in case I ever encounter something bigger.
Personally, I like the 45's the best as they are built with a longer case and a plastic plug, but in the summer I carry mostly my 9mm or the .38. which have the plastic capsules. Anyway... use whatever gun you like, just stick with the bigger shotshells. Oh, and if you get the chance to use a 12 GA. on one, try to hit right in front of the bugger from a lower angle and you can get them airborne... :D

As for ricochets... it's not as much of a concern with the small shot in the pistol rounds, but more of a concern with the 12 GA. Mostly you'll be shooting down and at an angle away from you... any ricochets should go out that way. Obviously, this could be a concern if someone was on the other side of the snake, somewhat in the direction you were shooting, so just be aware of what lies beyond your target.

Peakbagger46

Ya can get twice the payload that a capsule holds in the max case & another third in a reg. 357 mag case .

The maxs are a little work but worth it when ya can shred a copperhead up with it !!

How about the Bond Arms Snake Slayer IV?
I was going to get a Judge, but this little .410 looks great.
Check out all the YouTube videos.

Might also be a good car gun.

Python
Anaconda
Cobra

Any others?
A little sarcastic are you? Well you just beat me to it...

Diamondback, King Cobra. I think that's all...

I saw an advertisement for a Colt Diamondback 1911 recently, had real snake skin grips and a gold diamondback down the side of the slide. Kind of neat but not quite my cup of tea. I think it was in American Rifleman can't say for sure.

Maybe that's all of them.:neener:

Those that use snake shot (like CCI shot shells) in an autoloading 22, will it cycle the next round okay?

I always figured you'd be stuck with a revolver for shot shells.

My "snake gun" is any 38/357 revolver :)

any handgun will do. After all, you don't have to make a 800 yard shot

you will only be a few feet away

my daughter was a good enough marksman at 6 to hit a snake
