I have had an M1a for a little over a year now. It came with a nice brand new wood stock that looked so good I had to order a surplus USGI synthetic stock to shoot it lest I damage my perfect wood stock. The surplus synthetic has been great. I primed and painted it myself and came to really appreciate it. But recently, I found some "Vietnam era" beat-up wood stocks from FredsM14stocks.com. For an amazingly low price, he was selling what he claimed are stocks that have seen much more than the parade field. It came with a GI sling and handguard as well. Well, here she is. I wouldn't even begin to speculate where this stock has been or what it has been through, but I can comfortably assert that someone put this stock through its paces. It has more dings, scratches, and nicks than I could ever count. The grip area is darkened considerably and there are remnants of dirt throughout. Oddly enough, my M1a slipped right in and I don't think I'm going back anytime soon. I don't know where this stock has been, but it certainly left the drill field early in its career. And someone wearing an American flag probably took this to some inhospitable places.
