I have had an M1a for a little over a year now. It came with a nice brand new wood stock that looked so good I had to order a surplus USGI synthetic stock to shoot it lest I damage my perfect wood stock. The surplus synthetic has been great. I primed and painted it myself and came to really appreciate it. But recently, I found some "Vietnam era" beat-up wood stocks from FredsM14stocks.com. For an amazingly low price, he was selling what he claimed are stocks that have seen much more than the parade field. It came with a GI sling and handguard as well. Well, here she is. I wouldn't even begin to speculate where this stock has been or what it has been through, but I can comfortably assert that someone put this stock through its paces. It has more dings, scratches, and nicks than I could ever count. The grip area is darkened considerably and there are remnants of dirt throughout. Oddly enough, my M1a slipped right in and I don't think I'm going back anytime soon. I don't know where this stock has been, but it certainly left the drill field early in its career. And someone wearing an American flag probably took this to some inhospitable places.

Looks great, man. I've got a Scout that I've been thinking about doing the same thing for. Yours sure has seen some action.

Back in March I ordered a number of things from Fred-- GI cleaning kit, an old GI handguard, etc. I wanted to remove the SA Scout mount (aluminum piece of crap) and replace the cut-out guard with a solid GI. I'd pretty much forgotten about my order by the time it arrived in early August. So if I ordered a stock from Fred right now there's a chance it might get here before xmas...

Looks like birch, should be a damn strong and good stock.
I just fiished a Fulton Armory GI contour walnut stock and its very nice too, but without the nostalgia of yours.
