Sig P6 or Ruger SR9C?

I still plan on buying the Sig at some point. But I'm just afraid I'll buy it and it be too bulky and heavy and I won't want to carry it. I'm not worried about the mag capacity. 8+1 is more than enough for me to feel comfortable. But the extra two rounds that the Ruger holds I don't think will bring it up to the same weight as the Sig. And I wear a lot of khakis and dress pants to work and I'm afraid it will be harder to hide a heavier pistol in situations like that.

As for carrying, whatever I end up getting, I'm going to buy the Crossbreed Supertuck. I've just been hearing too many good things about these holsters to not buy one.

Don't believe the hype. I fell for it, and wasted $70+. I have a Crossbreed for my G27. It sucks. It's a pain to get on, is actually fairly uncomfortable to wear, and positions the gun too high to conceal it that well. The one nice thing I can say about it is that it is quick to draw from.

I suppose it would distribute the weight of the gun better if you only used a regular belt... but why are you using a regular belt? Get a real gun belt. If you haven't used one, the difference is astonishing. With a real gun belt, the weight of the gun you carry just doesn't matter. Nothing feels heavy.

My cheapie dun hume holster hides my G27 better, is easier to get on, and is more comfortable.

Don't buy into the hype. Spend that money on a real gun belt if you don't have one. That's a far better purchase.

If you want something slimmer and more modern than a 225, how about a Smith 3914 or 908?

I find mine extremely comfortable. Its not too hard to get on either. Now if you're wearing tight pants it is, but then again tight pants are a bad idea for carrying. For a holster I would recommend no other than the crossbreed supertuck.

Polish the ramp and it will feed hollowpoints.
And its a sig, no ruger can say that.

With the ruger you don't have to polish the feed ramps. It feeds anything and everything all day long right out of the box. Plus, Sigs reputation isn't that good now-a-days from what I hear.

The SR9c holds ten rounds in a nice slim and short frame. Sigs are bulky, and with that extra bulk you lose two rounds. Now in real world events 2 rounds might not make a difference, but I like to have them.

Carter, we will have to agree to disagree. I am not wearing "skinny" jeans though. Lol. I'd shoot myself first.

I'm not a fan of Smith autos. I really don't care about more modern. The weight will be the biggest deterent for me. If it's too heavy, I just tend to leave it in the truck....

Haha. I would hope not.

I'm almost tempted to make that my signature line. Priceless.

Honestly Sig P6/P225 vs a Ruger auto? Seriously?

The P225/P6 is a example of KISS in a world of hi-cap, super fantastic plastic wonder 9mms. It is a perfectly balanced, perfectly pointable, perfectly shootable, perfectly reliable and perfectly concealable 9mm. IMHO it is one of the best Sigs ever made.

People are so concerned about capacity. Train properly.. hit what you point at and you will be fine. In 99% of self defense CCW situations 8+1 is going to get the job done.

Good luck with the Ruger. I hope it serves you well.

Mine does. For a little cheaper than its counterparts.

Sigs are good pistols. However, I think they are overpriced. Plus I've heard far too many horror stories about their customer service.

With ruger you can all but beat your firearm with a hammer till it breaks and they'll still fix it for you free of charge...usually.

You do realize that most people do not beat their gun with a hammer. You also realize that a Sig P6 which is what the OP is talking about is a proven design which has been field tested for decades vs your Ruger SR9C which is a derivative pistol from a design that failed right out of the gate. Remember the SR9 was subject to recall.

A P6 can be had for $350 to $400.... Is that pricey? The P6 which the OP is looking at has nothing to do with Sigs current issues. It was produced and put into service during the height of Sig reliability in production and is one of the service pistols that built the original Sig reputation. People if you don't know your past then you don't know your future. The P225/P6 is one of the rock solid foundations of the P series line which the Sig name was built on. It is not some johnny come lately "cohen" Sig.

I will take a P6 over a NIB Ruger everyday of the week. YMMV. Good luck with that Ruger.

That was SARCASIM. The point is they stand buy their product no matter what happens to it.

I was refering to SIG's other handguns. I already stated I don't have any experience with the P6.

Yes the SR9 line had problems in the beginning. Almost every new line of pistol has problems. Certain Sig platforms have been terrible. Ruger has fixed the problems with their ruger. Now I'm not saying its a superior firearm. Its an economical choice that is very reliable, accurate, and has capacity going for it in a nice slim package. Consistant trigger, no DA to SA.

I wouldn't mine carrying a Sig later in life when I have the money for a 226 or 229. But out of the options the OP gave, I'll take my Ruger. I'm not going to damn a firearm because of bias against a company. If it performs I'll use it. And I do quite effectively.

Currently you can get a Sp2022 for $400 NIB. If you know where to look NIB Sig are $650.

Look at my profile and my posts. I am not a fanboy of the current Sig management. I cannot stand what "Cohen" and his management group has done to Sig.

The P250 is a POS. The P238 POS. However, when you are talking about the classic P series Sigs built in W. Germany you will be hard pressed to find a better made gun.

IMHO they put the current offerings by Ruger to shame. I have no problem with Ruger. I think that they build reliable guns. I find them crude and inelegant. They look like tanks and run like tanks but they are not refined IMHO. YMMV

I'm glad you are confident with your chosen weapon. After all thats what is all about.

Maybe one day I'll get to try one.
Care to send it to me for a review? Lol

I don't get down to NC much these days but maybe.... LOL

P.S. I don't carry a P225 anymore... I prefer a 1911. DW CBOB

I'm fully versed in the differences between the two guns. When we digress into overall trends and this model is better than that model, and general company reputations, frankly I lose interest.

I'm not a noob to handguns. I just wanted to get people's opinions regarding concealing for both of the models I listed. A lot of good opinions have been expressed and I appreciate all the input. But brand wars are irrelevant and not something I care to participate in.

My apollogies.
Hope you got enough information though.

Get the gun you feel number 1 will be the most reliable I have the SR9C and I think its rock solid . I have no idea what the sig costs but the other part of a carry gun is use one that wont break the bank if you lose it because thats normally what happens if you have to use it. I have both a Comp Tac MTAC for my SR9C and a CTAC for my SP101 I actually like the CTAC better but not by much, they are both great holsters and the Cant and ride height are both adjustable.

Here's my $.02.....

I like Sigs.

My first one was Browning BDA .45 that I bought in 1980. I competed with it in the early '80s in IPSC, and I had a satisfying degree of success. I still have that pistol and its still one of my favorites.

I bought a P225 in like new condition a couple of years ago. It worked fine, but all in all it just didn't move me. Can't really say why, other than it felt bland. Go figure. And remember, I like Sigs. I sold it.

Last Thursday I bought a new SR9c. Earlier this afternoon I took it to the range for evaluation.

Ran about 100 rounds through it. Nary a stumble. Accurate beyond my hopeful expectations. Shot some hot stuff through it, the recoil was surprisingly mild.

All in all, I really liked it - and I'm picky.

The holster I got for it rides nice and flat, comfortable to the point of forgetting it's there. It's a Galco Stinger for the XD 9/40 3". Fits like it was made for it.

That's my input.

YMMV.

Thanks for the input. I was going to order the Ruger yesterday but I forgot it was a holiday, so no NICS checks for new guns. I'm going to head out there this morning when they open and put one on order. Like I said, I'm still really impressed with the Sig. It's a great gun for not a lot of money. But I just have a feeling that I wouldn't carry it all the time. And if I'm not carrying all the time, then I need to reexamine my gun choice. I still plan on buying one to have though. It was really a lot of fun at the range.

As for the holster, I'm looking for a tuckable IWB, I tend to be in situations where I tuck my shirt in and I need a holster that will accommodate that.

I was able to find one in a shop today for $395 and I was all over that like white on rice! I hope to shoot it this weekend, but my first impressions are WOW! I've been shooting pistols for a long time and I've never been a big polymer frame fan. So for me to be impressed with a polymer frame gun, that's saying something. The feel is excellent, ergonomics are really top notch, and pointability is as natural as anything I've ever seen. For a person with small hands like me, the thin grip is wonderful. And for a guy who prefers to shoot single stack 1911s, again like me, it's a natural choice. If I get out to the range this weekend, I'll post a report for you. But here are some pics in the mean time...

And I thought I would put it next to the P6 for a true comparison in case someone else ever gets in the same boat as me. Pictures are worth a lot more in my opinion. Words are okay, but I'm more of a visual kind of guy.

And probably the only thing negative I have to say about it is this...WHY THE RED?!?!?

Thats just 3 bucks less than what I paid for mine. Good deal.
That pistol will eat up +p+ loads too. I keep mine loaded with Winchester Ranger t-series. 50 rounds for under $40 beats $23 for 20 rounds any day.

The one thing I will suggest to change on the pistol is to remove the magazine disconnect safety. Takes literally 2 minutes tops. Plus its good to know how to remove the firing pin/striker for a proper cleaning.

I still recommend the supertuck for a IWB tuckable holster. If you find the video on crossbreedholsters.com of the guy concealing a full sized XD .45 with his shirt tucked in that'll show you how good it is. I do the same thing with my SR9c when I go to church and its too hot for a suit jacket. Of course there are similar models out there, but I like the supertuck's metal belt clips. The celtic fross at the top is pretty cool too.

I figured it wouldn't get much better than $400, so I'll take the $5 and keep smiling all day long.

I think I will go ahead and order the Crossbreed. I like the two-week guaranteed buy-back. That will give me some time to wear it and see how it does.
