Thanks for voting on my last scope poll, but I need you to vote again. I have since narrowed down my choice a little and even added a new one.

The Vortex Crossfire is the lower end Vortex model that's their only scope made in China. I've read several good reports about them, but then I've also read several reports of guys having problems. Vortex did take care of them immediately, but you still don't want to have the problem in the first place. It's enough that I'd probably not buy a Crossfire unless I was on a super tight budget.

The Viper is the next step up from the Diamondback. It would be my choice, and since they are on clearance right now they are the best buy imo.

Thanks for letting me know the Crossfire was made in China. I dont want to buy Chinese scopes any more. Binocs and spotting scopes would be ok, but not rifle scopes.

I wish I could edit my poll options. It would now read: Vortex Diamondback, Vortex Viper, Nikon ProStaff, and Weaver Classic V-series.

My checklist

* $200 or less
* Very clear optics
* Not made in China
* Matte finish
* Minimum magnification of 1.5-2
* Maximum magnification of 5-7
* Prefered objective lens diameter is 32mm
* Prefered overall length is under 12"

If you can wait a month the day after thanksgiving sale at gander mountain includes nikon monarch 3-9x40's for $200. that's one sweet deal.

The Nikon Monarch deal at Gander Mountain started last week and ended on Oct 31. The local GM never got them in stock.
