Well I was looking at buying myself a Christmas Present… now that I have got some Christmas money…
I haven’t bought a new gun in over a year and the itch is getting to me something crazy…

At first I was looking at a USFA Rodeo in .38 but no one seems to have them in stock and having one ordered from the factory is a little out of my price range…

So, I started looking at Ruger. Now most of my guns are Rugers but I don’t have any of their single actions. (I didn’t want to get yet another Ruger but it looks like I am anyway…. Hahahaha)
I have narrowed it down to the 38/357 caliber. My local shop has a Blackhawk Bisley (standard Bisley but chambered in .357), a Vaquero (Ruger black/blued), and then a NM Blackhawk (stainless).

Now I cant narrow it down to which one of these I should buy. I hate these types of threads and don’t like starting this one but for the life of me I just cant decide.

Now I don’t know if the USFA is better, I heard the triggers are pretty nice, and I have heard that the Rugers have grit to them (although I don’t notice it all that much) I do like the springs in the Rugers better.

As for the Rugers I have listed, I am contemplating fixed sights vs adjustable. Every ruger I have (all autoloaders with adj. sights) came from the factory with the sights way off. I had to adjust them and it was no big deal. Now with the fixed sight Vaquero I don’t have that luxury but am I rally going to have to worry about it?

I wont be shooting SASS, just paper targets, clays, and aluminum cans at the range….
I like the traditional look of the Vaquero but I like the ability to adjust my sights as well….

What do you fellers say?

Did you check with Jim Finch at www.longhunt.com ? His prices on the USFA revolvers are very reasonable given all the extras thrown in, and the sights on my pair of Rodeos (.45 Colt) are spot on at 25 yards with my reloads.

Of the Ruger's you mentioned, I'd go with the Blackhawk Bisley since I have a pair of those in .45 Colt/.45 ACP and find them to be very comfortable to shoot.

Funny, must be something in the water. I picked up a NM Blackhawk, stainless with 4&5/8" barrel chambered in .357 for myself for Christmas. I'm a handloader and like to have adjustable sights, that way I can find a load the gun likes and adjust the sights to it.

I'd reccomend you handle both the Blackhawk and the Bisley and see what feels better in your hand. I prefer the Bisley but the Blackhawk was a deal I couldn't pass on ($175)!!!!

yeah, i am leaning towards the Bisley

i passed up on one a year ago and have been kicking myself becuase of it.
(that one was stainless in a 5 1/2 in. barrel, i liked it a lot better too)

but... i suppose a regular Bisley in .357 would be good too ;)

i was about to get the .45LC but i dont reload..... yet.......
the ability to shoot .38SP is a nice economic advantage.

as for grips, i like both the Bisley and regular plow handles, i do like the Bisleys a bit better, but i wouldn't feel too bad with the standard grip though.

really, the only thing throwing me off the Bisley is the 7.5 inch barrel and blued/black finish.

i am partial to stainless and like the 4.62 in barrel of the Blackhawk but am really wanting those bisley grips for some reason....

still think i am going with the Bisley, i am getting it for shooting at the range and the longer barrel might be an advantage with target shooting (advanced plinking) with it...
another thing, i dont see too many .357 Bisleys very often (and i am always looking out for one)
