Something about the elegance and simplicity of a Mil-spec 1911 makes them absolutely beautiful to me. Awesome buy, man! Hopefully I'll be able to check one of these out in person soon.

you got a good deal selling it to your buddy. bud's has them for $578 shipped right now..with my ffl that would come out to 593 out the door..

Yeah I had to charge him a little more than I paid because with tax I paid just over $600 for it. I offered it to him for $600 but he wanted to pay me $625 so I didn't argue with him over it:D

Congrats!!! well at least for a little while

It really is a nice gun, even though there have been some reported QC Issues.
for the money it's a nice domestic gun. I was looking for a mil-spec for 6-8 months for a project gun, but couldn't find one that i liked. when i handled the R1, i found my project gun.

here's a pic after i fit an Ed Brown grip safety and thumb safety. it now has a Caspian ring hammer on it. i still have some things i need/want to do to it before i refinish it.

The frame is cast and the slide is forged.
as for Remington building the R1 for someone else (E-RPC), E-RPC LLC. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Remington.
If you caught the TV show "American Rifleman", the show you the R1 being built in the US.

Remmy R1

Remington's web site says the gun is "manufactured" in N.Y., which I believe is still part of the U.S.A. I am inclined to interpret that as "entirely" made in the US.

F.A.Q. "Where is the 1911 R1 made?"
"These guns are built in our manufacturing facility in Ilion, NY."

I WANT ONE! I was looking at the Para until I ran across this one. Given a choice it's a no brainer.:D:D:D

Quack, That weapon looks very classy! Did you install the goodies yourself or have a gunsmith do them?
What finish are you going to put on it?

THanks!!!
i did it myself, because this was a project gun.

not sure on the finish yet. maybe blue again or parkerize then CeraKote.

For my money, it's hard to beat a nice blue steel frame for good looks, although stainless is cool too. This will be the first 1911 in my collection and just a range toy so I may leave it stock. You may have ruined that ..... yours looks so much better than stock. I guess I'll wait until I send some rounds down range and see.

the R1 is fine stock, i just bought it as a base gun.
in stock for it performed better (accuracy) than my friends mil-spec.
his mil-spec (as well as the ones i looked at) all had loose fit barrels/bushings, a looser slide/frame fit, and a heavier/grittier trigger.
the other advantage of the R1 for the DIYer is that the front sight is dovetailed and a Novak cut, so replacement will be easy.

the only downside to the R! (IMO) is that it's an 80 Series, but that's just a minor issue. I had my trigger down on the R1 to 2#'s, but brought it back up to 3#'s. stock it was 4#'s

this was a 10 pull average on my stock R1

and since you mentioned SS, here's a SS mil-spec that i did some work on for a friend. he's thinking of putting a beavertail grip safety on now.

R1 good looks

IMO it looks better than the Para and the SA....but that's subjective. If mine has a four pound break that will probably be OK.

nwilliams: where's that range report, you've had the piece for two days, surely you've put several thousand rounds down range by now!;)

he sold it to a friend before he got it to the range

i have a range report on here somewhere.
i also have detail strip pics on here, if you are interested in seeing the guts.

Thanks for posting the pics and conversation. I put an R-1 in layaway the 10th of December and just made my second payment on it. It will probably be a couple more months before I can get it but I can go and visit anytime that I want to in the meantime. It will be my first 1911. Has anyone seen any reports on sales for the R-1? I'm concerned that it the sales aren't what Remington had hoped for that they might discontinue it.

Right from Remington

Folks, I was also very interested in one of the these when I first heard about them. I had the chance to handle one at a dealer and and it looked & felt fine to me. Sooo.... I emailed Remington directly and asked them point blank "where are these made?". I got a very quick reply form them saying that they are "produced" entirely in our facilities here in Iloin NY.

As per Remington's web site:
E-RPC is the name of the company that contracted Remington to make these firearms. E-RPC is not an acronym, it is the company name.

So it seems these are made by Remington for E-RPC. In any case, still seems like a decent pistol for the price.

Hope this helps.

E-RPC is a subsidiary of Remington. (see post #33)

my guess is E-RPC stands for Eliphalet Remington Pistol Company.

I guess big fonts and bold text make your point more substantial... :banghead:

Read the thread it is well established E-RPC is owned by Remington.

Buds raised their price $100 today......:cuss:

Remington is still listing their R1 MSRP at $699.....Buds new price of $674 is good for a laugh, considering you'll stay pay for a transfer. My local FFL always matches or beats Buds prices anyway so I'll continue to keep my business in my local community and Buds can keep their overpriced R1.

Eh. Sell it for whatever you can get.

I wouldn't get too upset about it. The things is, there are other people making guns. You can get this, which is pretty much guarantied to be a better shooting gun.

Sure but the STIs have absolutely no appeal to me....Not saying they're quality is bad but their looks are just :barf: to me.

I'm not upset at all. I was just pointing out I can get it locally at Buds old price so why would I buy out of state just below MSRP.....Find a local FFL and establish a rapport and receive good prices on all your firearms purchases. That is what I was pointing out.
