Remington R1, bad first impression.

Toforo,

Do you have definitive proof of where the R1 small parts, frame and slide are being produced?

It does not really matter to me but your attempt at a red herring does not change the fact that Remington is being evasive about it.

Please enlighten us beyond Remington says on their site produced in the US because all that really means is that 51% of the assembly was done here. :what:

I have looked a few R1s. They seem to be well built enough. I just think that they are too close to the cost of a Colt. If I can consistently get a SEries 80 Colt for $700 I just can't see paying $600 for one of these.

and if we go that route, where do you think the frames/slides from manufacturer's like Dan Wesson and NightHawk (their non-Caspian frames) originate from? If you want to go back to where the forgings come from, they are Korean.

Exactly which is why it disgusts me when companies like Remington call their product MADE IN AMERICA as a marketing ploy.

I do not insist on US made products so does not bother me but clearly companies like Remington are exploiting other people's desire to buy US made products. If all 100% of the product was US origin they would state it like say Whitmans Candies do. They would scream it from the roof tops but they don't. They evade the direct question they hide behind the "Made in the US" label which any informed consumer understands is a farce. Springfield Armory does the same thing. Oldest name in US firearms my ***.

PS I am Korean by Birth Southern by the grace of God. :D

Jus like my company, it has "American" in the name, but we were bought by a French company a few years ago and before that our manufacturing was move to the Philippines, India and China.

is an American car still American if someone from another country worked on it?

Are the foreign car maker's still foreign if they build cars in the US for sales in the US?

it seems like nobody has undeniable proof that the Remington's are or aren't made from foreign parts.

IMHO no... It is American or US in name only. Profits don't even flow back to the US Corp they flow back to a French Corp.

Come on now. If they were truly 100% US origin would they be able to deliver the product at the price point they are now? If it was 100% US made don't you think they would be screaming it from every roof top? Lets not be willfully ignorant in giving them the benefit of the doubt. The price point alone dictates foreign produced parts.

As I said for me the point is moot. I could care less. I personally am looking at no reserve auctions right now for R1s and if I could steal one for under $450 OTD I would do it for a base gun to experiment on. For me its all about the product and its performance not where it is made.

The jury is still out on the R1. We will have to wait and see if it holds up and if the QC is there over a large number of units.

The 1911-R1 was my first pistol. I didn't lube it before my first trip to the range, and it was as if the gun was broken. After learning to lube + ditch the stock magazines, the gun has not FTF once after over 2000 rounds. Run and tell that!

Anyone know who is making the mags?

$600? The gun show I bought my CZ 75 at last weekend had them for $488 to about $535 on the high end, maybe I should bought one?

At $500 or so they are not a bad deal but even there I more than likey will still end up just buying a Colt. If I want a beater to work on test things out on I am going to the lowest price point where I can get a starting basic working gun and for me that is RIA.

Time will tell how well these run and maybe one day we will know more about the origins of the parts for those who care about such things.

Keep the range reports coming. We are all watching. LOL
