Today a new gun I had ordered came in at my dealer and I got to pick it up.

Let’s start with the why and the requirements for what I was looking for.

1. My current primary carry is a Colt LW Commander. I have a thread on here about it. The Colt is reliable. Built like a tank. It has two things going for it that I do not like. The trigger pull. Lots of sharp edges.

2. I love the bobtail. Have the following. Dan Wesson Guardian. Dan Wesson CBOB. Kimber Aegis Elite Custom. Only the CBOB is in 45 and it has a steel frame.

3. I like the 45. I shoot it well.

4. Night sights.

I began looking and have had great success with my standard Remington R1. This particular pistol caught my eye.

The Ultralight executive weighs in at 28 ounces and has an interesting design. It features a match grade 3.5in barrel with a full size bobbed grip.

Everything about this pistol is smooth. From the finish, to the slide serrations. They provide enough grip to easily rack the slide while not being overly aggressive. This is a nice upgrade over my current Colt.

Another upgrade over the Colt is some nicely done 20LPI front strap checkering.

The blacked out gun is offset by Silver and Black G10 grips. Front and rear night sights complete the package.

The grip safety has a very good feel to it and the thumb safety gives a nice positive click and feels solidly setup.

Remington on the left and Colt on the right.

Full length guide rod and match barrel.

Same grip size but much shorter barrel than this Kimber Aegis Elite Custom.

Trigger pull weight averaged just over 3.5lbs, while the Colt came in at 6.5lbs.

Lastly, it came with two 7 round magazines and a nice cardboard box (Not that it matters much but I hate plastic gun boxes).

At only $20 more expensive than the Colt, with a better trigger, night sights, an extra mag, smoother finish and lighter weight I have high hopes for the range test tomorrow. Will post my findings from where it matters tomorrow...reliability with defensive ammo.

Very sharp looking gun. I wasn't aware that Remington made anything besides the basic and enhanced R1s. Do they have a custom shop department of are these standard production?

I believe these are standard production. It is part of what they call their “executive” line. It’s a lot of gun for under a grand.

I have the RM380 executive as well. Really nice looking and quality feeling pistols.

Looks nice! I love a bobtail 1911.

I've had two R1s and both were shooters. Still have a doublestack and it's very nice.

My only complaint is the finish being super weak in Kydex, but that's minor.

The R1 looks great, solid 7 yards group.

The Colt... Not so much, pretty sad it gives you issues, it does look nice. I would not be happy with a 1911 you can't get a nice group with at 7 yards, that's for sure.

That's a very nice looking Remington 1911 and it shoots very nice also. A friend of mine has the R1 6" barrel 10mm and it's been accurate and reliable for him. Not sure about yours but his out of the box rattled like a soup can filled with rocks so I wouldn't own one with out putting my hands on it first.

Nothing is Dan Wesson tight unless it's a Dan Wesson. But I'm glad yours is accurate and tight. My buddies is accurate enough and reliable but it's rattley and I just can't get over that lol. My Kimber is smooth and tight and I can't make it rattle.
