At about 0630 Sunday, I send Wonderful Wife off to visit her folks in Fla. At about 1000, I'll be unloading ammo, divers 870s and assorted shotgun detritus at PGC. I'll shoot some trap and maybe try to talk the staff into opening the Wobble Trap up for a round of that. It'll be cold, maybe windy, so dress warm.

I'll be shooting the TB, but I'll bring Frankenstein and #6 along for folks that may not have a suitable shotgun to use there. #6 has a standard stock suitable for most folks and Frank has an M/C stock longer than usual for folks like Norton.

A round of trap or skeet runs about $4. I buy ten round books for $32.

PGC's otherwise good house rules include one that states that barrels have to be at least 23" long. That cuts out not only most "Serious" shotguns but things like the 20 gauge YE that most kids can shoot better than the adult sized stuff.

Ammo has to be size 7 1/2 shot or smaller.

Eye and ear protection is mandatory.

The shop in the clubhouse has ammo, accessories and rental shotguns at good prices. In fact, their prices on components beats mail order most of the time.

Some folks here have indicated they'd like to get started in shotgunning and live close enough to make this. Here's a good chance.

Look for a big guy on ranges 8 or 9 with a scrumptious 870 Trap and a blue hat with MD DOC insignia on the front.

What say you?....

Well, one of these days...
Lessee, as the crow flies it is 6.5 inches @ 150 mi per inch...blue state, yellow, green...sheesh that one is little...
Road Trip!:p Hey I do these everyonce one in while. "Truck America" :p
I'll be the guy in the blue truck, road film, grinning to shoot, good tunes and..."where is the bathroom, that coffee didn't last long"...

Probably with PGC address and using MapBlast/MapQuest be easy to find...

Well as long as my wife doesn't have anything planned for me I can make it. I'll be wearing some form of Steelers hat and shooting a Baikal O/U.

PGC is the link to PGC.

Phone there is 301-577-7178.

John, from the DC beltway take BW Parkway,AKA 295. Ist exit above the beltway is 193. Take the ramp and stay to the left. Make that left and go past NASA a total of about 8 lights. Turn left on Good Luck Road and go about 1/4 mile, watch for the sign and entrance on the left.

sm, I know you'll be there in spirit.

anapex, you watch for me. If lots of folks show, I'll have trouble keeping everyone straight.

I'm over 6 feet tall,260,in my 50s with whitening hair I've earned, Unibrow, sunglasses and that hat.

I think I may have dodged my weekend engagement, so I'll try to be there with bells on. Need to pick up reloading supplies anyway, as some guy at Berwyn is supposed to be showing me how to use the club reloader on Tuesday...

Fish.
token newbie.

Anyone gonna laugh at me for using some of Winchesters AA handicap loads? I figure for the first somewhat formal attempt I'm gonna need any advantage I can get. How many pigeons per round by the way?

I'm planning on coming out as well. My better half wants to see me enjoy the new twins (Mossberg 500 and Remington 870) and take a whack at a round of trap herself.

In other words I'll be the 6'7" 240lb good husband trying to explain to my 5'4" wife how to bust some clays:D

Dave.....what sort of light loads can I get for the wife? She handles the handguns just fine but I think that she dislikes the recoil on her shoulder, based on our last rifle outing.

anapex,

are those loads the ones in the grey box with the grey hulls? I used a box of those the last time i was at PGC and thought that they shot very well......seemed very consistent compared to the Wally-world bulk ammo.....

I would, but I'm probably going to be in Annapolis helping a friend move his mother's library to her new house. LOTS of books. And since she worked for Naval Institute Press for something like 25 years, I think I might be able to gather up a few "cast offs..." :)

I may be able to come, but I can't guarantee anything. I'm fighting off a cold right now and don't think it'd be the nicest thing to go shooting with the way I've been coughing: "pull!" **COUGH** **bang** "DAMNIT!" **evil looks at the short guy hacking up a lung**:)

Anapex, use them if you want to.The handicap loads are a little stiffish. However, this is for fun and education, competition it isn't. We shoot, have fun and enjoy.

Norton, ask the folks at PGC for Superlights. A 7/8 oz load will do the job and not kick the jeepers out of a new shooter. I'm out of 8.5 and 8 shot, otherwise I'd work some up.

Too bad, Mike, though you're missing it in a good cause. Next time...

Get well, Nico!

See you Sunday...

trimation, Trap Model 870s used to come in letter grades. T stands for trap, B for the grade. Prettier wood mostly.

Mike Irwin,

Be sure to stop by Galway Bay on Maryland Ave to eat. Best all around food in town IMHO.....also the best Beamish on tap if you're so inclined;)

Dave,

I'm thinking about going out to the Westminster show on Saturday so I may pick up some shells there....or there's always Bass Pro....

I'll see what they have in 7/8 loads.....

Norton, the Clipper over in Eastport has cream of crab soup and very good crab cakes that've won prizes. I eat there when in town.

I'll bring along some skeet loads, 7/8 oz of 9s, but they're not optimum. 9s are a little light for trap this time of year and these are kinda snappy, so they kick more. Still less than oz loads. Still see if you can connect also.

Actually, I've never been to the Clipper....but if you hang a left there on Severn (I think that's the road) and go down beside the elementary school...there's another restaraunt that has good soup and crabcakes as well....yummmm:cool:

Galyans in Rockville is selling bulk boxes of Federal 12 ga shells, 71/2 and 8's, 1290 fps. There are 150 shells in a box (loose), equivalent of 6 boxes. Cost is $18.00. If you buy 10 of these boxes there is a 10% discount. That gets the cost down to $2.70 per 25. I don't think I can reload for that price. I've been through two of the boxes and they seem to be fine for sporting clays practice and would probably be good dove loads.

I've had one misfire. Some of the primers are very deep in the base and had very slight firing pin indentations. They are not Winchester AAs but the price is right. I have not patterned them and I question the 1290 fps.

also dirtier and I find bits of plastic in the action of my Nova when I cleaned it last, after putting about 450 of those through it. But for the price......

Dave ..... how I wish this white bearded ole grizzle could make it ... less for the shooting actually than the chance to enjoy the company of you guys.

I fly out of AID now and again and that's about 2hrs 20 .... so would probably have to allow 3 hrs to make it to PGC ... assuming I could find it!! Just don't think I can manage that long a day right now even if weather manageable.

I hope tho it'll be a good session - I'm sure it will, and maybe sometime this year I can manage the trip.

A full debriefing will be required you understand ... post mortem!!:p :D

P95, you'll get one, I Promise.

Norton, the Chart House? It's on Severn, a little past Ruth's Chris steakhouse.

Tom, that's cheaper than my reloads, though quality might not be the same. Good stuff for fun and learning.

See ya all....

Ok since I've been spoiled by practically every store around me I have to ask, does the center take cash only or will they take a check card? Ok and to refresh my memory again , how many rounds do you typically shoot and how many pigeons per round?

PGC loves plastic, a good thing for me.

I usually shoot 4 rounds of 25 shots each. 25 pigeons per round, of course.

Prices on ammo aren't bad there, though more costly than the valuepacks. Some of the Fiocchi generics may be on sale.
