I have a great curiosity regarding a Mossberg 590 SP shotgun I just purchased NIB from a dealer. It's model # is listed as 50668 on the box, and it's also listed as being parkerized. It's equipped with ghost ring sights, 9-shot tube(8 + 1), and speedfeed stock. It's also got the little tab for a bayonet up front if you're so inclined.

My question for you Mossberg experts, revolves around it's finish, it's been parkerized, the box clearly states the finish as parkerized, I have looked it over and concluded it's parkerized, as has the gunsmith where I bought the big fella from.

The thing is, model # 50668 does not offer parkerizing as an option, not on the Mossberg website, not in the Mossberg catalog. It's simply listed as being available in blue, or mat blue. Yet this gauge is clearly parkerized. In fact, it appears identical in every way to the 590A1 which is parkerized, except for two, those being the plastic trigger guard & safety. Shotgun was manufactured in 09...

Any ideas, or explanations? :)

Either a non-cataloged variation (which is not all that unusual these days), or an obsolete finish no longer offered for that model. (also not that unusual these days)

With models such as the Chainsaw, Road Blocker, and Rolling Thunder, I would assume they were just too busy reinventing the uber-tacticool crap bandwagon to bother making sure their website and catalog had correct details.

My 50660 is listed as matte blue, and is also parkerized.

I sure wish they'd offer some useful options, like threading the 18.5 and 20" bbls for chokes. It ticks me off that this isn't an option, but the weedwacker handle is...

The website shows model 50668 as "matte blue", but the gun in the picture is clearly parkerized.

I suspect that "matte blue" simply means parkerized in Mossbergspeak or they changed from blue to parkerized and neglected to update the website.

Nice choice, BTW.

Mossberg has never had all of their current models on their web site. Sometimes it seems that they don't even know what they sell.
