We in Illinois have, for over 40 years, had to deal with state licensing of gun owners. One cannot legally be in possession of a firearm or ammo without having a Firearm Owners ID card (FOID) issued by the State Police.
It has never hindered me from pursuing my love of the shooting sports and others in my family have their own.
Our Attorney General just announced that the AP wire service filed a FOIA
request for all the names and personal information of FOID card holders issued over those 4+ decades. She says it should be released. That's the name, address and personal identifying traits of every legal gun owner in the state.
It also will misidentify every one who has a card just so the can shoot legally, an unowned gun, as a gun owner.
This is the tyranny that we all knew would come as part of gun owner licensing. 10 of thousands of Illinois residents being publicly outed for every
crook to know who has guns. We are besieging out elected officials with demands that this info be made private by law but in Illinois, where crooked
pols rule over us, this remedy is by no means a certainty.
