S&W M&P .40 here. I carry IWB with a crossbreed super deluxe. Once I got a GOOD belt it carries like a dream. AWESOME weapon and have had zero problems with it.

My EDC offduty weapon is a Glock 27. I usually carry it IWB. It also works well for me in the pocket. I use GAP magazine floorplates and Express Big Dot sites on mine.

The G27 is a dang good shooting pistol, but is kind thick. I've heard excellent reviews about the Walther PPS in 40, but have not had the pleasure of shooting one. Most everything I've heard about it has been good though. Basically depends on whether or not you want more rounds, or something thin

Glock 27 for sure, it might be a little thick compared to something like a Kahr, but it is a subcompact service pistol, the Kahr is great and all but I really don't think you can count it as a service pistol. The Glock also shoots like a service pistol, better even than pretty much any of the fullsize pistols I've shot. It's a champ, and it isn't really all that thick, and it is very small. In a good thin holster, it carries like a dream. I used to use a FIST #1AK, it was ideal. never carried a better combination of comfort and capability.

+ 1 I have a G27.PM9 and a G 19 and my every day Carry is the 27.I personally have no more issue with it than the pm9.It felt thick when I first carried it 2 weeks latter I mostly forget its there.

One other thought/point to the OP, although an IWB is a very popular option, don't forget about a holster that goes in between the belt and your pants. If you have a cover garment, it pulls the gun in as snug as an IWB, but without the need for extra room in your pants.

For those of us that either have a few extra lbs in the middle or simply don't want to size up our pants to accomodate something like a glock in an IWB, it is a good choice.

Rather than talk too much about this, here's a link to a thread I started on 1911 forums asking about this type of holster. I was provided with some good info.

Since CT doesn't require concealment, and I prefer to do what I call semi-concealed or "Casual Carry", this kind of holster is great. I often carry my 1911s this way.

I carry an XD-40 Service model IWB "appendix" and with the right shirt it's not even noticeable.

Anything smaller would be a plus. I'm considering a XDm-40 3.8" because of the short magazine. The magazine, more than anything is what is visible beneath clothing.

I've tried on the XD-9 and XD-40 sub compact and there is a big difference.

Although I have several Glocks, and M&Ps, and they are 100% reliable, for me, they are way too "blocky" to carry.

I like the Sig 239, and it is more accurate than my "plastic" guns, but, it is a little on the heavy side.

My #1 choice is an old, Kimber, Pro-Carry, in .40. Slim, accurate, and with the aluminum frame, it's light enough that I hardly know it's there. Too bad they quit making them!:what:

Walther PPS
I keep hearing about the PPS. I've owned several Kahrs. I've got to give that a try.

It seems there are two camps here. Those that find the extra thickness of a double stack gun, no matter how chopped it is to be an issue, and those that don't.

I guess it just highlights how personal a choice this is.

And how much extra space some have in the waistband. ;)

Doublestack has never been a problem for me, not much more uncomfortable than single stack, and I like having the extra ammo on me.

the waistband thing is a big thing for me.

So now I carry my Glock exclusively OWB.

1911 - Between the belt and pants
Kahr - iwb or pocket, depending on the gun

S&W 340, LCP - Pocket only.

Sig P239 would be my choice. I like the decocker. A little on the heavy side but comfortable to shoot. Shoots any ammo I've chosen to feed it, from Walmart, to reloads and home defense rounds I've had mine since mid-90's with not a single problem. Still original springs and magazines. Reliable and accurate pistol. IWB supertuck will work well with what you described.

I would look at the Kahr line of semi auto pistols. I carry a Kahr PM-9 (7 rounds of 9mm in a slim and light package).

I think the key is to choose something you will carry and can train with on the range. For me, the 40 S&W is close enough to the 45 ACP that I would not go with a 40 S&W. I think the best choices are between Glock and Kahr pistols. To get the best of both worlds, maybe a Glock 29 (10 mm) with an extra 40 S&W barrel from Lone Wolf would work. The 10 mm is an awesome cartridge when you want to use it, but you can just change the barrel and use the same spring and magazines with the 40 S&W.

I know some law enforcement people are limited in what they can carry. They seem to like the 40 S&W because people with small hands can handle it.

I also like the Kahr PM45 and the Glock 36. They are both small and easy to conceal. The Kahr is a bit smaller and may be carried more. The Glock 36 is single stack and that makes it easier to conceal. If you are set on the 40 S&W for concealed carry, I would look at the Kahr PM40.

Also, remember to practice with the smaller pistols. Many are more finicky with ammo choices and perform less reliably with limp hands. Also, they make up for the lighter slides by having stronger springs, and some may have problems working the slide.
