Greetings:
I'm looking for a recommendation regarding a concealed carry semi-auto in .40 S&W. I was going to give a short list of firearms I was leaning towards, but instead I will leave it up to your suggestions keeping in mind the following- I am covering a specific situation, IWB holster with blue jeans, t-shirt and surgical scrub top. So small and light weight is paramount, capacity somewhat less important.
Thanks

depending on your body type, you can get away with a good sized gun in what you described. For me example i can conceal a sa xd service model in what you mentioned, and have been carrying and shooting one for years. With almost 20k rds through it i am still very happy.

but if you are not able to carry something that "big" i can also recomend a kahr, the k-40 to be specific because you want .40 but the k series is steel framed. They are still light weight and easy to conceal, and it is 6+1. you can hide that thing almost anywhere no matter what your body type. the only downfall for kahr right now is that they are way expensive. I had one before, and with the prices that they are going for right now i would not buy another. If i could find one used, or at a price point of a few years ago i would have no issue with going with one.

if you are dead set on .40 then the following won't meet what you want. But i would also suggest a kel tec pf-9 to you. they are reliable, way more accurate than they should be, the trigger i nice, you can pocket carry them if you need to ( i do daily), you can't go wrong with it.

Taurus PT 740. Its very slim, lightweight, has a manual safety, adjustable sights, has a super smooth single action trigger pull on the first shot but if there is a light strike just pull the trigger again for a double action second strike, eats any ammo I feed it, and has very manageable recoil.

During the cooler months I cary an XD40SC. I am looking into the Taurus 40Slim - but have heard mixed reviews

Another vote for the SIG P239, mine will way outshoot anything listed so far and it is one of most reliable pistols in my stable. P239 my first SIG, I now own 7, all run flawlessly. For IWB you may want to step up to a .45 like I have, I replaced my CZ PCR as my daily beater with a SIG RCS1911. The RCS is an commander length slide and barrel on an officer size frame 7+1. For a CCW I would definitely get one that has tritium night sights (stock on the RCS).

I carry a Springfield XD subcompact in .40 caliber year round. I usually conceal IWB during the single layer months and I carry it OWB whenever I can wear any sort of additional layer. Carried IWB it conceals easily, in my opinion and I've worn it so long now that the only time I even consciously aware of it it is when I'm not wearing it.

With so many excellent offerings from S&W, Glock, Kahr, SA and all the other big names, you most likely can't make a wrong decision on the firearm itself; but I will advise that especially with these smaller framed guns, you really must get your hands on each one and spend some time comparing them in hand. I think that should be one of the biggest decision makers for you since not all of them are going to feel 'right' in your hand. I looked hard at the M&P compact and the comparable Glock offerings and none of them felt as 'right' in my hands as the XD did. That said, what works for me or anyone else, may not work at all for the next guy.

Can't rule out the S&W M&P40c. Carries well, smooth shooter, and three different sized backstraps. I carry in a Kramer horsehide owb belt slide.

Great Comments All...

Thanks everyone! I agree that being able to find out what "feels" right in my hand is very important- I suspect it will take going to several dealers to find the various makes and models but I have no reason to rush. I currently alternate OC a .45 Colt Combat Commander, .45 Colt Government, Ruger P-89, and .357 Ruger Security Six. A new situation will preclude OC and the attire I described is very similar to summer wear. I know I could go smaller caliber and pistol- and hitting what you are aiming at with a small caliber is better than a miss with a bigger bore, but I've grown accustomed to what I have. I tried the .45 Colt Commander with an IWB holster and the print was NOT acceptable. :uhoh: Any further thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

I like my G27 and my PM40.

The PM40 is in my pocket most all of the time now.

Dirty

Kahr K-40.
I read the write up in the latest G&A and if the review was anywhere near accurate that would fill the bill right nicely as a CCW gun. I like the fact that its a very simple gun to operate with no frills that serve no real purpose. If you have $1000 (for the night sight version) you could probably do a lot worse. I'm normally a 1911 kind of guy but this gun does appeal to me.

Slim in 40, I love glocks have a 26, but this 40 slim is 7/8 wide and has double strike plus loaded chamber visible tru the sights and a saftey if you choose to use it. I weighs less and is lighter than the glock, carries only 7 but 7 will work for me, as there will be an extension to make it 9.
