As you all know, it's the year 2011. 100 years ago today, the US Army formally adopted the 1911 45 caliber automatic pistol. I thought it would be a good day to post pictures of this historic weapon.

The 1911 is by far my favorite handgun platform...I have my Wilson CQB Compact .45 on my hip today as I do most days. JMB was really on to something with the 1911.

I thought this pic might be good for this thread. Me and my wife were fortunate enough to take a trip to Hawaii without the kids. Here's an exhibit at the Pearl Harbor museum, showing a 1911 pistol found after the attack.

Great looking expamples of one fine fighting pistol here. I'll refrain from sharing any pictures om mine whihc hace certainly been seen round these parts.
 
The special edition colt 1911's are beautiful. I wish I could pick one up, but I am moneyless. lol. I carried my kimber to celebrate.
