Which 9mm Glock?

Will you sponsor me to 30,000 rounds of that inexpensive 10mm.... it's easy to find too...

You probably ought to go down to a Glock dealer and see what feels best to you.

I have 17's, 19's, and 26's, and prefer the 17 and 26. The 19 is kind of eh, and I really dont see its point. At least they addressed the grip in the later guns, the first generations were terrible.

Dont discount the 26 either. They are great, somewhat little guns, and shoot very well, and better than you'd probably expect.

Glock 19

I have worn both on duty and off duty. Since I am about 5-9, the GLOCK 19 grip is long enough for my hand. The longer grip on the 17 is just extra weight and material.

I found no difference between the 17 and 19 from a shooting point of view, so I would go with the 19 as it is lighter and easier to conceal.

If you have bigger hands, then you may want the longer grip of the 17.

Try both at a range and decide the old fashioned way. Whichever shoots better.

this post is so weird anyway...what kind of retarded training goes for 2 months and burns through 30k rounds of ammo through nothing but 9mm glocks?

why would an instructor of such a course tell you to use what everyone else is and why are they all using only glocks? there won't be a single other gun there besides glock? no one who stumbled upon this magical class shoots anything else? what all do you plan to train for that takes 2 whole months?

this isn't a 2012 doomsday prep course is it? all you need to do is learn how to fly a plane if it is..

I have a 17, 19, and 26. There is not a bad choice among them.

If I wanted a range/duty size gun that I wasn't going to concealed carry I'd likely get a 34. Otherwise I think the 19 is the best glock. If I were only going to own one that would likely be it.

I do find it a little odd not to do whatever training it is with the gun you actually have and plan to use, but whatever.

One of the two police academy's I attended (One state and one federal), allowed certain guns, including the Glock 17 or 19. The reason they discouraged the G26 was that the string of fires were often 12 round strings.

Thus you would only load (but had to load at least) 12 rounds per mag and that required the +2 on a standard G26 mag and they did not want non flush fitting mags because of other drills.

Not sure this place does anything like it but that might be why the G26 is not what they suggest.

Now at Glynco we had no such choice we were issued a Glock 17 and we shot the Glock 17 with full mags no matter what the string of fire called for.

Gen4 for sure. I have only Gen3's, and I've never been an early adopter. So I was a skeptic. Secretly, I thought my friend was stupid for paying a premium to "upgrade" from a Gen3. I have resisted the urge to like it, but after several hundred rounds, I have to admit I consistently shoot tighter groups with it in rapid fire. The recoil is incredibly soft, and the sights don't bob as fast. They're ridiculously easy to track. And the hump is every so slightly smaller. (G19/23 has possibly the steepest grip angle of all the Glocks, so that change is welcome to me.)

I have my answer guys... It's not really anybody's business what type of course it is. I don't post that stuff in public... As for all Glock, it's not... Im using what my boss and instructor wants me to use... Plain and simple. He could care less if I used my .40 XD, but then I'd have to buy ammo...

I don't own a Glock in 9x19 but my EDC is a 3rd Generation Glock 23. Being on the small side I find it easier to conceal than the full size models. The magazine versatility is also a plus (eg. you can use 17 mags in a 19, but not vice versa). My brother-in-law owns a G17 and it is very comfortable to shoot, so I would suppose that the 19 would be also. The size difference really isn't that much but I find that the 19/23 size balances better. Cheers.

I own a gen4 19 and a gen 4 26.

I've put about 1000 rounds through the 19 and 500 through the 26. Neither has given me trouble. Neither gives me any trouble. I hear that if you have a gen4 19, check the recoil spring guide rod to ensure it has an "04" stamped into it. If it is earlier, call glock and they will replace it.

I recommend the 19, whatever generation you want. Small enough to carry yet large enough to have a good sight radius and a terrific grip.

I'm a 1911 guy who refused to buy glocks because they were, well, glocks. Now the 19 is one of my all time favorite handguns and what I carry daily.

And the hump is every so slightly smaller.

Yes it is. It isn't much on paper, but it feels completely different!

The rtf-type grip makes it feel so much better in my hands, too.

I'll be adding a gen4 34 if they ever hurry up and release it hear in the states. I hear there was a recoil in the countries where it has been released, so by the time it gets released I'm hoping the bugs have been worked out!

Well since you need a glock then go find the model that works best for you not the guys here. As you can read its all over the board which would be best. The lenght of reach from the palm of your hand ain't any different between any a gen 3 17 and 27 After 2 months and all those rounds you should want to carry a glock buy then anyhow. Any other pistol should feel wrong. So you will end up with a 17 or 19 maybe a 34. Your choice. If you think you will shoot compeitive at a local club then the 17L typicaly is to long to fit in a stock class box.

Glock 19 third gen. I used one for about five years in competition and loved it. I replaced it with a third gen Glock 23 (same sized gun but in 40 cal.)

the glock 19. If you want the glock 19 to be as pointable and as the XD that you are used too. Look into the grip force adapter. I always liked the glock for its accuracy and reliability, but i always preferred the xd service model. They are now on an equal footing now that I have been using the grip force adapter.

I know you have your answer but nobody posted a picture.

30,000 rounds, cowabunga, that a lot-o-ammo!

Because Glock Talk is rediculously impossible to register, you guys seem to give good advice..... How can I tell if one is a 1,2,3,4 gen? Thanks guys...

Impossible is right. My IP is banned... AND I'VE NEVER REGISTERED IN MY LIFE at that forum. Don't bother emailing them, you'll hear NOTHING.

Back to OP: The 19 is an all-around gem of a firearm. Let me echo the others and suggest that you try each one out for grip comfort and go from there. If you buy used, try for a Gen3 for sure. Either way, 17 or 19, the adjustment you'll experience having to shoot one or the other is quickly adapted to.
