Anyone shot a lot of this PMC Bronze ammo? I am having an AR15 built for me this week and wanted to buy a couple thousand rounds and get it good and broke in. I find this ammo for around 31 cents per round. Any info on it, or another suggestion for some decent cheap ammo for the .223/5.56? They also have Federal .223 XM193 55grn for about the same price.

I like PMC alot because I reload, so I appreciate the good brass, I would however go with the 5.56 rated ammo if you are not going to reload if the rifle has a 5.56 chamber to squeeze out all the performance you can get.

actually I am considering getting 1000 rnds each. this will be for my first 16 inch carbine. Unless someone has something real bad to say about it or knows of a better deal.

I've shot 1000's of rounds of PMC 55gr. It's good stuff. It's a .223 load as noted. I might get 50/50 between PMC and the XM193. FYI, neither one is match ammo, just general purpose target ammo.

I have also shot over 3000 rounds of PMC through my bushy varminter and it was good ammo other than 2 or 3 duds per 1000 but it wasn't the Bronze and it has been about 5 years since I bought the other stuff I shot up. I am curious about the Bronze difference.

I have some PMC I have yet to put throught my bolt action Weatherby 223.
I was suprised how good the winchester white box did, I hope the PMC is about the same.
I know the bulk 55gr FMJ stuff is usually used for AR's, but if I can get 1.5 inch groups from it, its worth the savings.

Im holding out hope that the fiocchi 50gr V-Max comes back in stock for its sale price of $0.45 per round

I'm on my second case of PMC. Runs fine, but it's slow. Doc Roberts has reported that he has witnessed issues with PMC in some of the agencies he works with.

I have used a lot of PMC. Either at training courses, or High round count practice sessions (500rds in a trip). I have never had an issue with the ammo whatsoever. Lots of folks in the industry that put a lot of rounds down range a year use this ammo without issue. I am very pleased with it.

I appreciate all the input. Sounds like it's time to buy some and see for myself.

I may try the remanufactured Sierra BlitzKing .223 55grn for some hunting rounds too. Although this isn't really what I consider a hunting rig but I have other .223 rifles for that. It's just time to stock up on some ammo I guess.

thanks again for the info!

I just finished 1K rounds of this stuff. I wasn't impressed with the accuracy of it. It's cleaner and more consistent than Wolf. I had some Silver Bear that was probably about the same as the PMC. As noted above, you do end up with some good brass for reloading. I did have a few with a notable difference in the sound and feel of the round.

..... but it's slow. Doc Roberts has reported that he has witnessed issues with PMC in some of the agencies he works with.

It is virtually the slowest .23 factory load I have ran over my chrono, and I've ran several. Even Tula (the steel cased ammo from Russia) was about 150 FPS faster and only ran about 1/2"~3/4" larger 5 shot groups at 100 yds.

It may, and probably does, work better in other rifles, but not my two ARs.

I've no plans to purchase any more of it.

PMC

I was issued pmc for qualification. can't call it training as never get to put enough rounds down range or have difficult course of fire. but it works and is reliable. Also can be had fairly reasonable prices. I keep a stash put back just in case. it's not federal american eagle as used to get but better than rem umc. had 3 failures with the 9mm last time and no problems with the rifle ammo.

PMC Bronze is made in Korea.
I've shot a lot of it, and never had a misfire.
I'd put it above WWB.
Not exactly precision ammo, and they say it's dirtier, but I couldn't tell.
MY firearms get a steady diet when I can find it.

I SHOOT THE HELL OUTTA PMC. I love my AR and am picky what I put it in, but DONT hesitate to run PMC through yours.

brass is good, never had a ftf/fte, not really dirty. I've got a few K of em stocked up.

Hi guys, I don't mean to hijack your thread Shurshot  But since it's about .223 I was wondering what the best ammo for 580 series mini 14 would be. So far I've put 62 grain and 55 grain Barnell 5.56 X 45mm Russian steel rounds through it and was getting about 3 inch groups at 100 yards. I'm keen to get after some deer but what to be sure of knocking them over and hitting the spot I'm aiming at first

UPDATE after my positive review above.

Yesterday I was testing a new AR and sighting in a scope I had mounted on it. This AR has a free floated 1/7 twist barrel and midlength gas. Previously I've used PMC in 1/9 barrels. Accuracy was very poor - 50 yard groups were scattered up to 4" across. Best groups at 50 yards were in the 2" range. I can't guarantee it isn't me or the barrel, but the barrel is top quality (Daniel Defense) and I usually shoot much better than that - I've shot 0.8" groups at 50 yards with a different rifle that has a worse trigger.

I have two theories: this barrel has a definite 5.56 NATO chamber, which doesn't tend to promote accuracy, and the 1/7 twist may be exaggerating any concentric imbalances in the relatively cheap FMJ bullets. My other ARs are mostly 1/9 and from brands that use either SAAMI or "hybrid" chambers that are tighter than full-on 5.56 military chamber dimensions. (As an aside, some searching yesterday for a different reason suggested that Bushmaster and Armalite use chamber dimensions in between a military 5.56 and a tight .223 SAAMI chamber; food for thought for the people who will tell you that they are lower tier because of their "223 chambers". I have a chamber gauge from Ned Christiansen (Michiguns) which tells you if a chamber is a true 5.56, and in my Bushmaster it doesn't quite stick (indicating a .223) and doesn't quite fall free (indicating a clear 5.56 NATO).)

Separately I was having some FTF issues, with cases being half loaded and stopping. I'm 99% sure those were a result of the brand-new carrier group being rough and sticky + using an H buffer + the relatively weak PMC ammo. I haven't had function issues with PMC in other ARs, but the others are broken in and either using a shorter gas system or a lighter buffer. I'll probably switch this one to a carbine buffer until it's broken in.

I have fired a few hundred of the PMC Bronze through my 16" M&P without any problems. However, as others have mentioned, it is the weakest 223 / 5.56 ammo I have run across my chrono to date.
Favorite high quality reasonably priced ammo is of the Federal 55gr variety, American Eagle or generic brown box from Aimsurplus. Accurate enough for me with 1.5-2" groups.

Given a choice between PMC and Federal for the same price I'd buy Federal.

I've shot a lot of PMC, UMC and Prvi 55gr FMJ out of my 1/7 AR and just a handful of Winchester soft points and Federal premium varmint rounds.

Prvi is by far my favorite thus far in 55 gr fmj and it's usually one of the cheaper options. Only black mark against it is crimped primer pockets if you reload. Just don't buy it all up!

I absolutely love PMC bronze. Just bought some PMC X-Tac 5.56 today. It was only 25¢ more than the bronze per 20rd box, so I was like what the hell I'll give it a shot. Haven't shot it yet though. But PMC is my favorite plinking round. Last weekend I bought some cheap .223 that my gun store had on sale and I drastically noticed a difference in accuracy and it left me with sh*t loads of cleaning to do after.

I do like PMC 55 gr but like the PMC 62 gr XTAC even better. I have shot hundreds of rounds out of my Daniel Defense with no issues. The XTAC shoots pretty decent groups. I have a case on hand.

Anyone shot a lot of this PMC Bronze ammo?
Nothing wrong with it. Is there any better for the $ well probably. Personally I'd suggest looking into Fiocchi, even before the XM193, I think the F is more consistent and more accurate...and still cheaper then WWB which is ok I guess...

1/2ways decent ammo is now below $6 a bx/20 !!

I like PMC alot because I reload, so I appreciate the good brass...
The PMC I shot was crimped primer was it older? Or does it bother you having one extra step in the reloader process?
