Arkansas is reporting that they have signed an agreement with New Mexico.

New Mexico is not reporting this and it is not one of the eighteen states they have listed on the New Mexico site as having informal recognition of.

New Mexico has a bad reputation when it comes to talking to other states. They have been stating on their website for the last 14+ months that they are "reevaluating" the states they honor and nothing has been added or subtracted. I have had 4 or 5 states tell me that New Mexico has not answered inquiries about reciprocity or honoring their permit/license and they can't even get a reply.

Now Arkansas is stating they have an agreement. I am hoping this is New Mexico coming of age and that they may finally be getting their act together. But until they post that they honor Arkansas I will not add that to Handgunlaw.us. Lets hope this is a sign of more good things to come out of NM and settle a lot of confusion about who they honor and don't.

Hi Gary,
I hope NM does have reciprocity with AR. My family lives there, and in the past I have depended upon other states with reciprocity with AR to legally carry there.
NM seems to think that unless a state has exact training requirements as NM it is not acceptable for reciprocity. I hope they will come off of that nonsense.

Thanks for the information.

Regards,
Jerry

Having just moved to NM from TN a few months ago, I wouldn't hold your breath waiting on them to get around to changing the web site. They are way behind the times as far as the internet is concerned. Many things other states allow you to do online still have to be done offilne here. I say give it another 14 months and they probably get around to adding AR to the web site.

A major part of the problem with NM is that there are only 8 people in the unit, and they have to process all applications, renewals, etc. Accordingly it is even difficult to get them on the telephone sometimes.

From a NM CHL holder it appears that AR will recognize our license, but the AR holder is in limbo right now.

Regards,
Jerry

Now we (NM) just need to have states that we recognize to recognize our permits. NC comes to mind.

Gary, now that you have that document will you update your site? I would really like to look at your map and see less red!

Next scheduled Update for Handgunlaw.us is the evening of June 30. That is when it will show up. In the past I have always sent Steve the updates to load to the site. I have just started doing that myself and I am a long way from being a computer wizard. Wish I were. So I don't want to screw things up so pace the updates so I don't have to be messing with the site to much.
