I'm about the buy a new CHL automatic pistol. I've narrowed it down to the P7-psp and the P2000SK. I would like to hear from owners about these pistols. I am leaning heavily towards the P7, although it is an a-grade used German Police Pistol.

I have a couple of P7s (PSP and M8) and my regular training partner shoots a P2000SK w/LEM trigger module.

The P2000SK wins in weight and mag release placement...I've also shot some with the DA/SA trigger and the de-cocker placement is one of my favorites (I like the Walther P99 better)

My P7s are more accurate and I like how the cocker/decocker also acts as the slide release (the slide stop is a completely different piece). Of the heel mounted magazine releases, the P7 is one of the easiest to use...the only easier one is the Beretta 92

I do like the shorter trigger travel of the P7, but the P2000's trigger isn't any harder to manage.

It really comes down to your preference between a steel frame or a polymer one

I have both the P7 and P2000sk. IMHO, the P2000sk is the finest compact CCW currently available. The P7 wins in the thin catagory, but in every other regard I prefer the P2000sk's features, especially the lower weight.

I shoot both of these guns about equally well, but the Mepro sights on the P2000sk are better than the standard sights I have on the P7. I like the fact that the P2000 will take higher capacity mags, either 10 or 13 rounds which make range time more fun. Of course there is no heat issue with the P2000sk, which can be an issue if you like to shoot lots of ammo during a range visit. I've never had to let the P2000sk cool down.

I view both guns as equally easy to use, simple and fast to action... just draw, aim, shoot. I like the heavier DA first pull on the P2000sk. I consider it a solid safety factor, follow up shoots are just as light and quick as found the P7's trigger.

Whereas both are outstanding, quality pistols, my personal preference is towards the P2000sk

Of the two I have only the p2000sk and agree with usp9. It is the finest CCW currently available. And like usp9 the high capacity mag option of the p2000sk is a big plus. I bought the .357 sig/.40 package. For normal carry i keep the flush 9 round mag in the gun for ease of concealability and one or two spare 12 rounders on me as well. I like the DA/SA as one has the option to cock on the draw or just pull through on the first shot. I have the full size version too but it's just for HD until TX gets open carry. A guy can hope.

Wow, great input. I keep thinking about the p7, mostly because I don't own an auto with a steel frame, and have recently become squeamish about my Sigs and wear. I carry a j-frame revolver from day to day, but the need for a few more rounds keeps crossing my mind. These posts have really helped, and thanks!

CDNN has P2000SK for $760 which is a pretty good price. There is a gun store in Brenham TX that generally has great HK prices new and used. I picked up my full size P2000 there for $450 in like new condition. I also got my USC there for $1300. If you're interested shoot me a msg and i'll see if i can find their number. But they only do in shop sales so you'd have to be willing to drive a bit. Also i think GT Distributors recently opened a shop in dallas. Their austin store had a few P2000s on sale for under $700 but they're all gone. You may want to check the Dallas store though. If you didn't know about GT before you're gona be thanking me after your first visit, HK or not.

I'm leaning towards the P7! My friend that carries one daily in a Kangaroo holster pointed out, that it is really safe around kids. I don't leave loaded firearms laying around. Period. BUT.... if my kid were to find it somehow, the odds of it firing from condition 1 is pretty slim. Just another thought.

I own a retired P-7. To the positve, size and accuracy. To the negative (?) if you go with an unusual feature, squeeze cocker, I believe you have to be committed to train the system and stay current. Second the police model will not have the retro heat shield and these guns heat up.

I'm still giving it a thumbs up!
