Do you use holster for glovebox or console

I keep a pistol in a pocket holster in my work vehicle. I'm not allowed to carry inside the gate (and they DO have armed guards with metal detectors) but I sometimes need to run errands on my way to or from work. If I need to stop someplace I just pocket the pistol in its holster and go inside.

I'm not particularly worried about it being stolen, the parking lot at work is guarded and has cameras and I have a garage at home.

On cross country road trips I used to take to work, I kept a cheap/powerful gun in the vehicle at all times along with one on my hip and my others in the suitcase, when driving I would have the cheapo gun in a holster in the driver door pocket for cross draw, and the holster would get caught on the pocket enabling the gun to come out smoothly. Not sure the legality of that in SC but of the times stopped in FL,AL,MS,LA, they didn't seem to mind, then again I have my ccw. When I wasn't driving it was hidden out of sight, long stops lockable glovebox, short stops under seat. Now I only carry my edc because it's just in town driving.

Have you considered getting or wearing your pocket pistol in cross-draw formation when driving? either have a seperate holster for it plus your pocket holster or rotate your IWB.

Here loaded pistols are always holstered until they are going to be shot.

I don't take the pistol out of the holster, I remove the holster and pistol from the belt when locking it up.

My range guns stay unloaded except at the firing line.

Sorry folks, couldn't find the "add quote" button.

Answer: No I haven't. I don't consider myself as being large or fluffy but as I drive around I have been observing my normal sitting position and imagining where a holster would go. The waist area seems pinched as I sit upright at almost 90 degree angle at the waist, I don't drive with "my lean on" or with my seat pushed way back and lounging back like I'm in a recliner. Best option seems to be the map pocket in the door which puts it on my weak side or in the console which is strong side and for a fact legal. My conslole is cavernous and can be sectioned off so I should be able to hard mount a holster in an excellent position while leaving plenty of sectioned off area for binoculars, leather gloves, partial roll of tp etc. and not encroach on gun real estate.

I don't make a habit of keeping a gun in the car, but for the extremely rare occasions I need to, there is a crappy generic holster velcro-attached in the car somewhere (last one I saw was in the trunk stuck to the side carpet, don't know where the other car's holster is) ... for those times I just have to go somewhere with an effective firearms exclusion method.

If I wanted a "car gun" I would probably order up an Ohai from CrossBreed and mount it in the car somewhere handy, possibly in a camoflauging device like a binder or vehicle manual cover. The Ohai is a Kydex shell on a leather backer, then Velcro underneath ... so you can mount it anywhere that can have Velcro glued on (they're primarily designed for purse carry or CrossBreed's "Bedside Backup" system). MrsBFD uses hers in various purses as a modular holster and has stuck it up in other spots on occasion.

Hook Velcro on the part you can't see.

I had a holster for my beater G19 mounted under the dash of my 94 Caprice. I normally carry a 5" 1911 at 4:00 IWB, getting to it while seated wasn't exactly easy with a cover shirt and seat belt in the way.

My current caprice is going to be a little more challenging with the addition of the console, but a mounted holster isn't high on my priority list - I've had my current Caprice for over three years.

Was simply wondering if others mounted a holster in such locations for quick access and proper orientation not to meniton the saftey/damage angle.
Once in a while I have a handgun in the glove box, upholstered.

24/7 the vehicle guns are carried in a holster, or like the one car, there is a holster like space beside the driver's seat.

My theory about car guns is, if I ever need it, I'll need it fast and won't have time to get the gun out of a case. Especially if I'm driving.

If I have to leave my gun in the car I put it in a holster. It is usually which ever holster I was using to carry it on my body.

A holster that covers the trigger protects the finish, keeps out debris, and reduces the chance of an AD or ND.

I keep mine in its Uncle Mike's pocket holster and move it from my pocket to the side compartment on the driver's door. That's a perfect place for me since I'm left-handed.

Long before it was strictly legal to carry a handgun, my Wife and I kept Colt 1903 pistols in our car glove box in zip up bank bags. The theory being that when the glove box was open the pistol couldn't be seen (like getting your registration out of the glove box).
Now days, having the gun in a case other than a gun case still might be a good idea.

Side note,
I was involved in a Quick Stop holdup on the way to work and felt way under-gunned with that 32.
When I got home a 1911 45 replaced that little Colt.:)

Now, my idea of a car (or house) gun is something bigger and more powerful than you can normally carry.

To me, a vehicle-mounted holster is not for keeping the gun in the vehicle, but to make it more comfortable and accessible while driving. I typically wear an IWB holster at 4:00. This is great for standing and walking, but is quite uncomfortable and difficult to reach when trapped between a seatback and seatbelt.

That's the way to go -- never leave a gun in an unattended vehicle if you can help it. As I say, I sympathize with those who can't carry on-body for whatever reason, but for myself, I never leave a gun in the car.

Car gun is kept in a pocket holster in the console. If I park in a known-prowl area like a trail head or dog park, it slips in my pocket and goes along for the walk.

I don't keep a gun in the car unless I happen to go in some place that I can't legally carry. My handgun is always holstered with the trigger covered. Also, if driving for a while I will keep it in the safe mounted to the floor which also has a holster. It can still be accessed quickly from the drivers seat if needed. I know it's not hidden, but is pretty secure and with the windows tinted and the console blocking it from view thru the windshield it's a good option for me in this particular vehicle. Much stronger than a locked glove box or center console and many people feel comfortable locking valuables in those and thieves will always look there.

I keep my HK .45 compact in the console with no holster. To me, a holster just adds another hindrance to quick access if needed. The gun rests on a foam pad and is not obstructed by other items which I keep in the glove box. I keep the weapon loaded with one in the chamber, hammer down and safety on.

I keep a Glock 19 in my center console. I keep it in a Bianchi #59 paddle thumbstrap holster. It helps protect it from bouncing around, the thickness of the holster with the paddle helps hold it in place when the console cover is closed and if I ever want to bring it with me outside of the truck the paddle style holster makes it easy to throw it on my hip.

My loaded guns are always holstered with the trigger guard covered whether in my car, my safe or my pocket. I use many variations on that theme and many of them are cheap cloth, but it's still another layer of protection between me and an ND.
