I was wondering what the legalities of putting a holstered pistol into the glovebox or console of my car are in Arizona. What I have read points to it being legal - I am just a little paranoid about being pulled over and being incorrect that carrying a pistol in my car loaded and holstered in a glovebox is illegal. Weapons charges don't usually lead to a bright future.

Packing.org says this:

Arizona is an open carry state-- it is legal to carry a holstered or cased loaded handgun (visibly) in your car. A.R.S. 13-3102 Misconduct involving weapons; defenses; classification; definitions A. A person commits misconduct involving weapons by knowingly: 1. Carrying a deadly weapon without a permit pursuant to section 13-3112 2. Carrying a deadly weapon without a permit pursuant to section 13-3112 concealed within immediate control of any person in or on a means of transportation; F. Subsection A, paragraph 1 of this section shall not apply to a weapon or weapons carried in a belt holster which holster is wholly or partially visible, or carried in a scabbard or case designed for carrying weapons which scabbard or case is wholly or partially visible or carried in luggage. Subsection A, paragraph 2 of this section shall not apply to a weapon or weapons carried in a case, holster, scabbard, pack or luggage which is carried within a means of transportation or within a storage compartment, trunk or glove compartment of a means of transportation.

Am I completely legally safe carrying a pistol loaded, holstered, and concealed in a glovebox or console in my car? Am I reading the above text correctly?

Thanks.

Lived in AZ years ago.

As I understand it so long as it was holstered in the car (anywhere) you were fine. Just HAD to be holstered.

I was once pulled over with a .45 in the glove box. As the lady I was with started to reach for get the registration out I had to stop her so that I had time to let the officer know I had a weapon in there. He only asked me why I had it and that was it.

I set in the the dash and he went on with the traffic stop. I think if I was wrong I would have had a much worse day.

I think you're fine.

Just to be safe though get a CCW.

Wish I could get a CCW, can't for my age. Thanks, that experience you had helps ease my mind. And, looking at that text, there's no way I can be reading it incorrectly. If I am, legalise really is another language.

In AZ, it is legal to have a loaded handgun in glove box/console as long as it is secured in a holster

I have also passed the traffic stop test in the city of Phoenix. I informed the Officer there was a handgun in a holster in the glove box with my reg/insurance info. He asked me to step out of the car while he went to the passenger side and pulled it out and layed it on the dash.

That was it. I got a warning for making a left turn out of a parking lot that was posted no left turn. The sign was new ( and the size of a postage stamp) so he was cool about it.

There was no further discusstion about the handgun, all he asked me to do was wait until he pulled out before I got back in the car.

If you don't have a hoster then a handgun must be in plain view.
