Delta Elite 10mm

Apocalypse: I had a feeling we were about to go Glock vs 1911. I'll bite since I've owned both in 10mm. My Glock 20 had an aftermarket barrel to account for the rifling issue with cast bullets and the often talked about chamber issues which can result in KB's - let it be known I'm about as worried about those with my Glocks as I am my DE falling apart, my AR jamming, my Mini shooting 12" groups at 100 yards, an 80 series FPS resulting in my death,....

many aftermarket barrels for different guns can cause feeding issues. one of the reasons glocks are so reliable are loose chamber dimensions and less case support. however, if you replace it with an aftermarket barrel with proper dimensions, even though tighter, it'll work fine.

Not sure if you have ever fired or owned a 10mm but these are my experiences. Could a G20 outlast a 1911 in 10mm? Who the heck knows but I see no real reason why it should.

yes, i own a 10mm. polymers do indeed outlast 1911's, and every other steel frame gun. its been proven time and again. the frame flex reduce frame battering ;)

I only took the time to write this because I hate these false rumors but more than anything it chaps my ass when someone posts about a gun they just bought and they receive critical responses.

if you want to squash false rumors, you should do so with facts ;)

...........

what three companies would that be? colt is the only one i'm still aware that currently produces one.

Actually Colt, Kimber, Nighthawk, Wilson, STI, and Fusion all have 10mm offerings.

i was wondering if you were talking about the high end custom houses.

so, for production 1911's, colt, kimber, and STI are the only ones? (i've never seen a 10mm STI, and i think kimber only offers them through their custom shop)

That's about it, Dan Wesson only recently ceased production of their 10mm Razorbacks, so there's still a ton of those out there. STI offers the "perfect 10", I'm not sure what else, and Kimber's "custom shop" isn't really a custom shop. ;) They've got their stainless target models, and I've seen a couple Eclispe 10mms as well, they might have a few other models too.

also, send a couple thousand rounds of FULL POWER 10mm through your 1911, and let us know what kind of shape your gun is in.

I put a 21# spring and a shock buff in my Kimber Stainless Target II immediately after purchase because I knew the old Norma loads were the lightest ammo I was gonna put through it. Don't have an exact round count, but the gun looks just as it did the day I bought it, save the small scuff on the frame next to the MSH where I dropped it on a concrete floor once.

My Witnesses are fine, too.

Apocalypse: You inferred that a DE can't go a few thousand full power rounds. My own gun did and there is no appreciable wear on the rails or broken parts. That's a fact where I come from.

Will a G20 "FAR" outlast a 1911 in 10mm? Give me a few years and I will be back with an answer to that too ;) I'm not knocking the Glock or polymer guns at all, I own many and I know Glocks are durable - its one of their many strengths. They aren't perfect though and for me a 1911 in 10mm is a better choice. But FACT is the 1911 is a worthy platform for the 10mm.

Dan Wesson still makes them btw, just not in the catalog.

The Dan Wesson's jumped up in price for this year big time. Supposedly the quality jumped up as well, many owners claim the 2011 Valor is on par with the Les Baers. But in the case of this gun that finish raises the price over SS a few hundred I think, just like the black Valors. You're right though, it aint cheap, one more reason the DE is a good buy.

TXHORNS,

You hit the nail on the head. Many posters, on many forums, The High Road included, come here with possibly their first firearm, proud as a young boy with their new puppy, and like children can be, other posters do everything they can to tear down that persons moment of joy.

I have had it done to me, and have proven every one of them wrong and will continue to do so.

I love my Delta Elite, Delta Gold Cup and am learning to like my Glock 20. Will it ever replace my 1911's....absolutely not. I have been shooting and loving them in many calibers for over 30 years. There is nothing that fits my hand better and naturally points like the 1911. Accuracy of all that I have had was exceptional....except one and a little tweaking brought that one to my requirements. They have all be reliable to a fault. So I hope the ohio58 enjoys his gun for many thousand rounds to come.

It's cliche, but...they don't make em like that anymore. You have a pistol with VALUE that will only be produced one at a time by artisans at a premium $$$, triple what you paid. Congrats!!

I'm not aware of any facts that state a Glock 10MM is more durable than my DW Pointman 7 10MM. If anyone has such FACTS then type it for all to see.
