My mind is set on a Ruger SR1911. I don't want to order online. I keep checking my favorite toy store, Florida Gun Exchange, to see if they have one. Nope. Anybody have any luck in finding one there? I just want to get a feel for when their shipments come in.

If you just want to know about that specific store I'd call and ask them. If you're willing to go elsewhere I know shoot straight has them at a decent price, and they have multiple locations in Central Fl. depending on where you are.

Good luck. When I went to my "local gun shop" (I hate the place, but they have a nice indoor range) I casually inquired about one and the guy looked at me like I was stupid and assured me that Ruger didn't make a 1911 and that I was probably thinking about the SR9, not an "SR1911".

If you know it is the Ruger SR1911 you want, why don't you just order it at your local shop.

You'll be happy with the SR1911. It seems to be a well made 1911, very reliable and nice looking too.

I was at the Shoot Straight in Apopka this afternoon and they had an SR1911 in the display case tagged for the same price as the msrp.

Brotip on Shoot Straight: their tagged prices are for suckers who don't know what the gun actually goes for. As soon as you inform them what the pistol actually fairly costs (e.g. from Buds or CDNN), they'll drop their price to match or at least come very close.

Unless it's a gun on sale (and obviously already at a low price), never EVER pay sticker at Shoot Straight. They'll sell anything for like 5%-10% above their cost. If you keep that rule in mind, it's actually a great store, because they manage to have just about anything you can think of in stock, always.

FWIW I have purchased 4 handguns from them for regular or better than street/internet prices with no hassle
I don't know the asking price for the SR1911 because I didn't ask since I wasn't interested.
As I said, I saw the tag in the case.

I like Shoot Straight but I prefer to deal with a place that puts a fair price on their merchandise upfront and not MSRP hoping to get it or force folks to beat them down. That's just me. I've called FGE and don't get a straight answer when they might expect some. Shoot Straight had at least 3 at the Orlando show and who knows how many they had already sold because I was there on Sunday. I know they are big with several stores and as far as I know, FGE has only a sister store in Indiana (Midwest Gun Exchange) but how is it that they are getting them and not FGE? Has anyone here seen or bought one at FGE, say, in the last 3 weeks?

Honestly, you don't have to "beat them down" you just have to tell them you know better. I've done it as simple as "Well, I'm interested in this XYZ, but Bud's has it for $510." "I can do $520, can't go lower." "Well toss in a range pass and I'll do it." "Deal."

I understand Harmon. I've just never liked to deal that way. A bad quirk in me that has no doubt cost me some coin but again, just me. I'd like to believe I know what a good price is because I do my homework. I'm willing to pay that asking price if it's in the ballpark. Really, I'm digging here.

I'm with you there. Some people enjoy haggling, so I assume that they don't take issue, but it's not a process I enjoy. I know about what the minimum price I can get it for is. If they require any negotiating on a price I'll typically go elsewhere. The most I'll do in a shop is as for their "real price". If it don't come down sufficiently - with that one request, then I'll happily go buy from somewhere where I don't have to do the haggle dance.

^^
That's what I meant when I said "no hassle".
I don't particularly like haggling either, so when they offer the gun at, near or better than the street price, I'm good to go.

I just read the Nat. Rifleman review of the SR1911 and its sound like they have a winner for the money. Has anyone had one on the range to compare to other 1911's? I would like to hear you thoughts say as up against Springfield, Remington or Kimber.

Out of the the three mentioned, I only have Kimbers. Kimbers QC has been off and on, and at one time mostly off. Personally, I would rate the one SR1911 I own as highly as I would rate Kimber when Kimber 1911s were know as a quality 1911. The fit, finish, and relaibility of the SR1911 is there - nice gun.

quit pulling your hair out

call John at East Orange Shooting Sports in Winter Park and tell him what you want and the discount prices you have found. EOSS has a nice indoor range so that you can buy it and shoot it in the same day.

I wouldn't call that range nice.. it's kind of cramped and dirty. But I do shoot there because I live close by :D

Nicest indoor range I have ever been to is at the Police Hall of Fame out in Titusville. Talk about nice.
