I'm thinking about getting a ruger gunsite, and wondering what optic I will buy.

So what do you have on yours or what would you buy? No more than a 4 power please.

I went with the standard Leupold Scout Scope and am very pleased. It takes some getting used to, but works very well, is light, clear, and fast to shoot.

Overall I am very happy with it.

what power is the scout scope and is it hard to use with the long eye relief?

I have a Ruger Frontier, and I never could find a EER/pistol variable scope that would work well on this rifle. Consequently, I stuck with the Leupold FXII 2.5x IER/scout scope. I have no quarrel with it, but I still wish I had the option of reaching out to 4x-5x.

I did contact Leupold's custom shop and they indicated that they would take their 1.5x-5x/20 pistol scope and set it up for IER use. As soon as I save some pennies, I may give that a try.

It is the 2.5x. It took some time for me to get used to using this kind of scope, but now I really like it. I just lift the rifle, look through the scope and press the trigger. it is very quick. The hard part was sighting it in. I am used to high powered scopes which provide a much better view of the target. Then I found a target made for use with scout scopes and it settled right in. Here is my initial impression:

Hope it helps

Thanks for the info

I was also kind of thinking about a micro aimpoint, since there's no eye relief and I think it would be faster then with irons.

I Micro would be very cool. I guess it just depends how you want to use the rifle. I wanted to shoot out to about 300 yards, so the scout scope is great. The Micro would be blazing fast at close range and more difficult at longer yardage. You could also consider using QD mounts and use both. You could also pull off the rear sight and use a conventional scope like Andrew suggested.

how long does the eye relief have to be on this rifle, I thought about one of the lower power trijicon acogs, but It's eye relief is like 4".

That is cool I will have to keep that in mind, I think that may be the best idea I've seen so far for optis on this gun.

I may still go with the aimpoint
