I saw a Bushnell Banner 4-16x40 CF500 w/red green lighted retical scope at wally world today. They were asking $99 for it. Anyone know anything about these? Seems like a good deal but how is the glass??????

I have not owned that particular scope however the couple Bushnell banner's I did own were poor to say the least.

The Mueller 4x14-40 APV is super clear edge to edge, mine cost $129.

I have Banner on my rimfire rifle. It is a good scope. I zeroed it and do not tuch it anymore. When I bought another Banner for my deer rifle, it was a total disaster. Clicks were not repeatable. Doesn't hold recoil. So I returned it and went for a different scope.

I bought one but a 3-9x40 at wally for $40 was on clearance. Put it on my .22 and its worked great. Very clear, zeroed it easily the first time and have had it a while now still works great with no adjustments or problems. Sure isn't the top of the line but for the price they cant be beat

As long as you don't need any service on the scope you should be okay. They have the worst customer service of any of the scope companies I've dealt with. I sent them a scope to have the plastic screw on the elevation adjustment knob replaced and asked them to see if they could fix the power adjust screw as it was starting to stick. Instead of replacing the screw they sent me an estimate for $70+ dollars to replace the scope. I told them I didn't want another scope, that I only sent it in because I was told they could replace the screw if I sent it in along with $10 to cover return shipping. Finally after about a month of waiting I finally got my scope back with nothing done to it. They told me they couldn't fix the power adjust screw and they couldn't replace the plastic screw on the elevation adjustment knob because the scope was no covered by their lifetime warranty due to the eye tube being "bent". Needless to say I will no longer recommend Bushnell to anyone and will do what I can to make sure others don't go through the same hassle that I did. Personally, I would recommend you look at Redfield, Nikon, Leupold, Weaver or Pentax (at least they provided excellent customer service) before Bushnell.

I've never had a Banner. Grandpa did on his 30-06; I don't ever remember him missing a deer.... except once when a round didn't go off that dad had reloaded. Some kind of primer issue I think. His would have been made in the early/mid 80's.

I have 3 different banners dusk/dawn models and I like them. They all have workedfor a slug gun, muzzleloader, 17 hmr and 7mm at one time. I have no repeatiblity issues with theclicks on any. The glass is good if your not shooting competitions os sniping gnats ass hairs at 400 yards.

I've always heard that if you want clean, fresh oats, you must expect to pay a fair price. However, if you're satisfied with oats that have made a trip through the horse, you can save a few bucks.

There is a reason that 'banner' and 'bad' start with the same two letters.

BTDT.

While some have had no problems, others have.

That said, I bought a 3200 Elite that I'm happy with. ;)

i have three 4x12x40s and they work really well.got a used 6x18x50 on another forum and it turned out to be dud

I've got 2 - a 3-9 BDC on a 30-06 and a 6-18 on a .223. I have about 140 rounds through the 30-06 with it and probably 100 rounds with the .223. Both hold their zeros very well and the clarity is what is to be expected of a lower-end scope. Both get a bit fuzzy at the higher powers. I've never had a bad one, but you can't deny the negative press shown here.

I'd purchase another if I didn't get a 3200 Elite and fall in love with it.

Cabelas has the 4200 for sale in the bargain cave and Midway has the fixed 10 3200 on sale as well. Don't know whether you've seen it, but SFWA has the Crossfire 6-24 (I think) for $99. Hope this helps.

Well, it was a Bushnell Banner that made me decide to never own another one again. My Wife got a concussion and scar from the stitches resulting from the poor eye relief, so did I. I buy Leupold from now on and have since the early 1980's. Every time I've come across one or some other junk optic, I either toss it in the trash can or give it to a kid with a BB gun, but I'll never put my eye up to one again!

Can't speak about the Banner, I know that is your question, but Cabellas is/was running a great deal on the 3200 Elite 4-12 x40AO (10 yards) for a little over $200. The 3200 is comparable to the Leupold VXII, and I think comes under Bushnell's bullet proof warranty.

Apparantly that was a problem in the past, because they have a Banner now with 6" eye relief.

By the way, I only have one experience with a Banner. My dad has one on his .30-06 and it has performed very well. It holds zero just fine and is plenty clear enough. No, it's not astronomy grade optics but for under a hundred dollar bill, it's good.

had a bushnell banner dawn to dusk on my 10/22. 1st one had reticle break without it being dropped. it was 3 months or less old. they replaced it.replacements reticle broke again without trauma after a year. i decided to replace the scope with a different brand.

you really can't compare the Banners with the Elite 3200 line

the banners are in the cheap bushnell lineup, probably made in china

the Elite line are made in japan, held and built to a much much higher standard

just look at the responses to this thread, mostly negatory, then do a search for threads about the elite line...you will be hard pressed to find someone who has had a bad experience with a 3200

I had a China made Banner. Seemed fine in the store. Put it on a .22lr and it worked ok. Set it on a .243 and with in 20 shots it was done. Something internal let loose, you could see a shadow covering part of the image. The adjustments quit working then as well. Took it back to Cabela's, they refunded me my money, and I bought a Nikon Buckmaster that I've been happy with.

I've heard stories that the older Japan and Philippine made Banners were decent for the price. Never looked through one. I wouldn't spend the money on another China made Banner, or most any other China made optic for that matter. For just a little more money you can get a much more reliable scope with better glass. You don't have to go broke on a scope, but spending excessively little money on one has only lead to headaches. I can't say of all the bargain priced Bushnell, Simmons, Barska, BSA, Tasco, etc I've tried over the years that a single one has left me truly happy. A couple have been mediocre for the money, but most quickly ended up being nothing but a waste of time and ammo.

ive got a 3-9x40 banner on my 10\22 and couldnt be happier. that being said i only paid 8 bucks for the scope

OK on a centerfire rifle,if you are looking at recoil you need to go with better, for a few more bucks, the new Redfields are really good. lots of package gun deals come with the Banner on them, again, you get what you pay for.

I've never had a Banner, but I've gotten to check out a few as several friends have them. Well, actually 2 friends have them, but each of them have several so I've gotten to check out several. One friend likes his and has no complaints, but most of his are older, and all he has is cheap Simmons, Tascos, and 2 older Redfields etc, to compare them to. I have checked them out, and while they seem halfway decent, the glass isn't very good and I don't see what he see's in them. Several of the Simmons I've used have had better glass, and he does say that he prefers Simmons. He has his on fairly hard kickers though and they have stood up, but at the same time he very rarely shoots them. He has one on a 12 gauge shotgun that he turkey hunts with that shoots 3.5" shells. I'm not sure if the POI shifted if you'd really see much of a difference on that or not since it's a 12-15" pattern. Then he has one on a .243, and 2 others on muzzle loaders.

Then my other friend has one on his 30-06 and on his muzzle loader. Both have held up for the couple of years he has had them, but the glass sucks. He is super cheap and refuses to spend anymore on something better, but there have been several times in the evenings where he has seen deer come out into the field and says he watched them with his naked eye, but couldn't see them through the scope, so he couldn't take a shot. He started to carry his shotgun with him to the stand as well so he could take shots at what he could see if they were close. I've looked through these and the glass is pretty pathetic on these too.

Neither of them have had them fail, but they both have pretty lousy glass imo. Online I've read of quite a few people having problems with them failing, but I can't comment on that. I do think I'd look for something else as I think you can probably get better glass for not much more.

Thanks for the info. I'll stay away from them. I have Nikon on most of my centerfires, but was looking for a decent cheap scope for an air rifle. It has a very crappy Tasco on it now that gives me headaches......Due to crappy glass.

For a bb rifle, maybe, but that's even questionable.
