I jus recently bought a remington 760 gamemaster, autoloader not pump in 30-06 caliber. Can anyone give me some information about it? I paid $325 for it. Is it even worth hat much?

You bought a 740 or 7400, that is the semi auto designation. What it is worth depends on its condition internally in reguards to function. If it is worn out it is worth very little, if it functions and is what you want you made a pretty good deal.
I prefer the 760's.

If it is a semiauto, it is either a 740, 742, or 750, not a 760. If it is in decent condition and reasonably accurate, it should be well worth what you paid. It will do anything any other 30-06 will do, with less felt recoil. Some of these rifles had jamming problems, especially the older ones, but Remington has sold a lot of them thru the years, so they can't be too bad. Use only new factory ammo,(not reloads) for best reliability when hunting.

So it could be a 740? The barrel of the rifle says remington 760 on it. Could it have been swapped with the 760 barrel then?

Have you tried to shoot it yet? The 740 will have a small port in the barrel for gas release into the action. I suppose that a 760 barrel might have been drilled but I would check it carefully, you might have bought a single shot. I don't know what the ramifications could be with the action/reciever without proper gas porting so I would have it looked at by a real gunsmith or talk to who you bought it from.

the 7600 and the 7400 barrels are not interchangeable do to the gas port on the 7400 to cycle the action semi auto

I haven't shot it yet. I will be taking it to the gunsmith this week though.

Remington Gamemaster is the pump action.

Model 760 & 7600 are the pump actions.

Remington Woodsmaster is the semi-auto action.

Model 740, 742, 7400, and model 750 are the semi-auto actions.

Thanks a lot. For the help. Now I know what I'm looking at. I guess I'll rethink this rifle for another, if it is in fact 2 rifles put together. Would I be better off with the saage axis 30-06?

That PUMP was made between the early 50's to the early 80's and if it is a semi-auto it is a mix of parts . Walk away. The real 760 pumps are great guns, accurate for a hunting rifle and would buy one.

It states "remington 760 gamemaster"
I took it to the range and was told, it was a good rifle. They even took it and gave a couple of tes for me. It shot. So I shot it and it shoots great. I had to adjust the scope but other than that its a great rifle in my opinion.
Thanks for the insight.
It does shoot and is semi-automatic.
I will post some pics when I get to a computer.

I'm really curious to see this thing. I've never heard of a semi auto conversion.

Get a real 760, you won't regret it. They require a sure cycle, and it can be done in the time it takes to reacquire the target, so in such a caliber as 30'06 they're as quick as semi-autos and more accurate (generally).

I have seen a few the other way. I've been told the reciever is the same.
Most likely the original reciever failed due to binding slide rails and was rebuilt
useing a 760 pump part. Or it could be a 760 rebuilt with 742 gas parts. Why, I dunno.

not sure of how to post pics but here a some
