I recently bought a Remington 760 Gamemaster 30-06 pump action rifle.

Bought it used in decent condition including a scope and sling for about $340 (plus tax/fees) All the metal is very clean and taken care of, but the wood is a little worn from use. (doesn't bother me)

I'm not a hunter, so this will be a target shooting rifle...

Anyone own this gun? Any tips?

My bro-in-law swears by the pumps and had a 280 remington that he had the barrel cryogenically treated...thing would shoot 0.25-50 gruops all day long. Then he decided to have it reemed to a 280 Improved and the gun was never the same again.:uhoh:

Anyway, he replaced his wood with one of the synthetic stock sets from Hogue (I think) and it looked great...might give that a try.

As long as you like it and it shoots good for you, that's what counts.

Enjoy it!

after i pick it up i'll post some pics on this thread. the wood on it is a little beat-up as i had said, but to be honest i actually like the "broken-in" look on some guns...especially a classic looking rifle like this one. hopefully it shoots good. :)

My BIL (a leftie) has one-an 18" carbine model in 30-06. He uses it to hunt whitetail in the thickets. NOBODY has to ask if it was him if he fires off a round! One loud dude! Being a leftie, he sometimes sounds like a semiauto when he gets carried away shooting the thing.

I used to have a regular sized model in .270. That thing was WAY more accurate than it had any right to be. It would shoot with ANY bolt gun in the woods with reloads it liked.

I like them, but there are a couple of minor drawbacks. First, some have some slack in the forearm/pump mechanism which will cause them to rattle when carried too casually. Secondly, primary extraction is not very strong which can be a problem if using reloads. If you reload, a small base die is recommended.

Good luck!

I have read some reviews of this gun online that suggest it is pretty darn accurate...we'll see ;)
