Every once in a while I'll look through a few countries militaries and their equipment and it seems everytime I look at China's they have some really amazing looking weapons. So I search for a way to purchase almost any chinese designed weapon and i always end up with sks or ak clones. Is there any way to purchase more modern Chinese weapons? Is there a ban or something?

Yes there is.

It called the The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, and it was passed in 1994.
It covers importing any working assault style rifle, from any country.

Then there was the NORINCO (China North Industries Corporation) fiasco before that that put China on slippery ground with U.S. importing "non-sporting" weapons. It's bad form for an importer to try to sell urban gangs shoulder-held missile launchers capable of downing large commercial airliners.
Especially when the gangs buyer is a Federal undercover agent.

Its really sad , looking at their qbz variants makes me want one. Kinda gets old seeing everyone with a ar -15 of some kind.

looks pretty nice, tho for someone just out of highschool rifles like that would take months to even almost make enough money to buy them. I figured if chinas ban was lifted they could flood the market with surplus qbz rifles for cheap. Or give the parts to century so they can mangle them and then sell them to the public.

We will be using Chinese money by then too.

In fact, we are now.
Because of all the people buying crap from China and them buying nothing back from us!

idk seems like every rifle I think looks awesome is almost 3,000 at the lgs so I look to online surplus stores for a sign of hope but its usually crushed because if I buy it i go to jail cus hell it looks too scary. Also why did they ban things with bayonet lugs and other things I can buy a knife and I can buy a rifle so why if I tape em together would it become some uber death weapon?

well thats because they make it cheaper if anyone was given the choice they would usually go with cheaper things. If any other country made the same thing as China did it would priced twice as much so we can't really complain. the next time i find something that says made in Germany or Russia that isnt ten times the price of the chinese version ill probably buy 3

Bayonet lugs are not banned now.
They were banned under the The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act.
But that was allowed to sun-set after 10 years.

I don't have any idea what you are talking about there.

If you can buy it on an on-line store, it has to go through your local FFL dealer before it gets in your hands. If it isn't legal to sell it, they wouldn't be selling it.
And your FFL won't be handing it over too you.

They won't let you have a handgun though!

Careful what you wish for, cause you might lose what you already got!

Like when you look up new and interesting guns you'll find one you want realize the government says no for some odd reason and you'll never get to own it. If they ever find you with it ur boned. I just want to be able to own whatever rifle I want I dont need a grenade launcher or anything other than semi auto. One from any country i choose that doesnt have to come here and be mangled by century something that a person from ( insert desired country ) made.

As distressing as it may be, the US is about as close as you'll get to that ideal.

A few places like Canada and Switzerland are sometimes called out as having one or the other singular benefit that "beats" current standing laws in the US, but that universally proves to be a very hollow and incomplete island of win in a sea of lose.

Sometimes it's tempting to say that it would be worth moving to one of those countries in order to take advantage of that one detail. Like, if you moved to Canada you could own a 14" barreled shotgun without having it be an NFA Title II weapon. Or if you were a Swiss citizen you could, at least up to a point, own a (one) full-auto assault rifle and keep it in your home. But comparing that against the vast weight of practical 2nd Amendment freedoms we enjoy here and ... well, you've got to REALLY want that one (1) government-issued assault rifle, or that (perhaps) unregistered SBS.

Here is an overview of Canadian law: http://panda.com/canadaguns/ Pay close attention to the sections on Restricted and Prohibited firearms.

Is there a ban or something?

You do understand that those Chinese military firearms are selective fire and you couldn't own them anyway since they are made after the machinegun registry was closed.

You also can't import ANY Chinese firearms into the US at all.

You can own hand guns in Canada...

Prohibited:
■ handguns with a barrel less than 105mm (4.14 inches), except certain specifically listed competition handguns which are restricted.
■ handguns in caliber .25 or .32, except certain specifically listed competition handguns which are restricted.
■ large capacity magazines for a semi-automatic center-fire firearm. The maximum capacity is 5 rounds for long guns, 10 rounds for handguns "commonly found in Canada", and 5 rounds for handguns "not commonly found in Canada."
■ if it has a remotely military appearance, it is prohibited.

So yes, technically you can own handguns in Canada.

But I would lose over half of mine that are too short, or hold too many rounds.
Plus several military rifles, and three air-rifles that are too powerful if I moved there tomorrow.

Just what we need, More chinese garbage.

Opps there goes my Nikon, TV, Computor, let alone all my ERTL toys, ect., ect.
well not only chinese, I don't believe their weapons are garbage anyways. Plus at least they look different unique vs the ar clones which infuriate me beyond belief. Go into a gun store and look at their rifles u have ur long ar clones and your m4geries and then u have ur .22 made to look like a ar its sickening someone needs to make something interesting. They have 4 rifles at the lgs that arent ar something . 1 fn2000 2 wasrs and a m14 looking thing

No incentive too.

Chinese civilians can't own them either.

The Chinese government is in the business of arming it's huge military.
Not arming free world or Chinese gun nuts.

so the best thing to do if u want variety is to move to the mountains of some 3rd world country and do whatever you want. Id like to ask the people who make the laws why everything thats cool has to be banned or so much garbage to go through before you can own it that its offputting. Lets melt the worlds guns down into swords and crossbows and well make it so only 1 type of sword is ok to own.

Been in some 3rd world countries
and you gotta have lots of money and know people...
most of the time, you (a westerner) are the FIRST person the authorities are willing to mess with...

Sides, I thought the Chinese stuff was banned with the Russian by executive order...
cause where are the Russian hand guns?? (hint a genuine TT-33 goes for A LOT, almost as much as a North Korean)

They do make some nice shotgun's I've heard.
