My brother in law just bought a new shotgun and needs to try it out. We usually go to Swan Creek, but it's closed during duck season.

Anyone know if Skyline is still open this time of year?

I'm pretty sure it is, Outdoor Alabama's site didn't give any closed days. Will warn you it will be a good bit colder up there on the mountain. I prefer Swan Creek, but use Skyline on occasion, I'm about equidistant from both. Skyline is usually less crowded.

It was open all winter long last year. It doesn't close for duck season like Swan Creek.

Doc's right about the temps there. The wind picks up after about 10 am or so.

Swan Creek is supposed to be closed after Thanksgiving, but I went out there after Thanksgiving and it was still open. So I thought I'd be absolutely sure it was closed.

The gate was padlocked today. It's closed. ;)

Alabama has a split duck season. It opens Thanksgiving weekend, then closes again the Monday after. Re-opens again on 12/1. The range is closed during those times.

Skyline was very nice, but a LOT further than Swan Creek (I live in S.E. Huntsville). It's also a nice drive, and well worth it to shoot on a 200 yd range. I was a little disappointed that I was hitting a little right of target when shooting at clays on the bank with my scoped 270, but hit them about 70% of the time open sight with my Mosin. Didn't expect either me or the gun to perform that well.

TenDriver, there's a range in Cullman that's probably closer for you. They have 100, 200, 300 and 500 yard backstops, plus a small handgun range. It's $15 for all day.
