I have never help or fired one of these, so I am looking for first hand experiences. Give me the goods and bads,,,,,

I like mine, mags are a little expensive but mine came with 5. I have run a couple 100 rds through it but I carry Glocks so it sits in the safe a lot.

The one I have is fine, no problems. Picked it up FTF, but usually carry a PX4 or a P239.

Loved mine, ran great, surprisingly good trigger like Bender said, fits the hand beautifully, and the sights usually appear to line themselves up.

I have one in single-action only, and the trigger is phenomenal. I had it for sale at one point, and may put it up again because it just doesn't fit what I personally want in my current stead, though it is tough because of the combination of the trigger, weight, reliability, and accuracy. The nice thing about the SAO is that you can't accidentally decock the hammer, and you can rest your right thumb right on top of the safety when firing, just like you would a 1911; unfortunately, they don't make the SAO variant anymore. Very accurate, have not had 1 failure in a couple hundred rounds.

I own an FNX40, but I shot an FNP40 at the range, once.

The trigger is fairly light. I accidentally doubletapped off the paper first time I shot it after being used to my Glocks. It just felt so much like a Glock (similar overall weight and weight distribution, low bore axis, similar grip angle but without the hump), I guess I treated it like one.

The felt recoil is very soft and muzzle rise is minimal. I have yet to have a failure of any kind. It's currently the only handgun I can say that about, aside from my G21. I have nothing negative to say except that

1. the plastic trigger feels a tiny bit "bendy"
2. To detail strip it you have to remove the rear sight. ***.
3. The sights are made from some cheezy non ferrous die cast, or something. The paint wears off of them quite fast under normal use.

FNX only, not FNP:
1. oversize mag release is too big
2. depending how you grip, the control lever might jab horribly into the base of the thumb
3. Safety detent isn't positive enough for such a large, completely exposed lever.
4. If you try to decock it with your trigger finger high along the slide, the ambi lever pushes against your own hand.
5. Lever should really be metal and/or it should ride in a slight depression. For a lever that long and completely exposed, it's too flexible. You can catch the lever under a fingernail and bend it outwards, away from the frame, quite a bit. It has even been known to break off under normal use for lefties (right side lever is attached weaker than the left). Combined with problem #4, it's bad juju.

The FNP-9 is a very good, reliable design. They did have a bad batch of fire control housings with a molding flaw in late 2006-early 2007 that were prone to cracking but that's about the only common issue I can think of. Recoil in the .40 tends to make the slide stop rotate up and ding the underside of the slide but it's a cosmetic rather than function issue and it doesn't seem to be an issue in the 9mm.

I bought one a couple days ago. 5 magazines, $400 OTD.
Shot it a bit. Looks like it's going to be a good gun.
