I've never been an AR fan...until tonight. Shot my first AR 10 tonight and now have something else to save my pennies for.
I found the one I fired a little heavy and I think I would need an adjustable stock to make it a hair shorter, but overall, I just love the .308 from that gun with an ACOG sight. Must have been the little .223 round that got me.

What type of AR-10 did you shoot (barrel type/length, etc.)?

They do make lighter weight ones that are down around 8.5 lbs. for a carbine or 9 lbs. for a rifle, if you get something with the light profile barrel like Armalite's chrome lined barreled rifles.

Truthfully, I was qualifying on it at work, in the dark, so not sure of the details. Pretty sure it was a Colt, it was full length, not any kind of carbine. But the report was so much more satisfying than a .223!
It seemed front heavy to me, and when I'm ready to get one, which will be quite a while, I'll have figured out wat's more comfortable to me.

AR-10 is a trademark name for the ArmaLite .308 AR style rifle. DPMS is the LR-308, Noveske is the N6, LMT offers the MWS and so on. You wouldn't call a Python a Model 686 would you.

The .308 AR platform rifles are very accurate and have a very moderate recoil. Can be configured in any style the AR15 can be configured.

The are heavy, The ArmaLite Carbine, Infantry profile barrel is just under 8lbs and is among the lightest available.

The DPMS is the lowest cost and KAC is the highest cost. The newest to market is from CMMG and looks like a great rifle with a outstanding price.

I own a NoveskaLite, Noveske N6 upper on a ArmaLite NM lower. I have used DPMS and the LMT MWS. Seriously thinking about adding the CMMG 18" model.

AR 15 is a trademark name for Colt rifles only (except pre 1959 armalite models) so either you meant "...can be configurered in any style Colt AR 15s can be configured" or "..can be configured in an style the AR platform in 5.56 can be configured".

I have a DPMS SASS and have to say that I am well pleased, for the money its a great shooter. I am not sure how it would stand up to an actuall combat environment, the dust ect. but I would guess that it would hold up pretty well.

The 308 AR platform is versatile with optics ready recievers and interchangeable uppers. The only problem is that some are proprietary, Armalite only works with Armalite ect.
DPMS also has other calibers that will fit on that lower, like 338 federal.

I cannot recommend PMAGs enough, I thought I had feeding issues with my rifle. It was the over priced factory mags. The PMAGs are lighter CHEAPER and feed better.

The one big advantage I find after using an M4 for the past few years is that the muscle memory transfers to the AR 10. I am currently looking at upgrading to a POF 20 inch upper and a night force scope.

If you live in one of the free territories there are some pretty decent options for suppressors

My Armalite AR10A2 is one of my favorite hog rifles. also got a now discontinued Bushmaster BAR10 also in the A2 configuration (think they might be RRA now). love my .308s.

I have a POF P-308 and although the AR10 type rifles are heavy they're not any heavier than an M1A and a whole lot easier to scope. They're also easier to clean, and mine is more accurate than any other semi auto anything I've ever shot. Can't recommend them enough, save those pennies. Then save some more, because they sure aren't cheap to feed!

Here's my ar-10 next to my 5.56 ar15

I've killed a few deer with the ar-10; great hunting rifle. Can't wait to put a suppressor on it and hunt right off the back of the horses! :D

Mine are both armalite, and I love 'em. I'll keep buying this brand. Love the lifetime warranty they give too!

They are definitely easier to scope, but I've never seen a .308 AR with a 22 inch barrel that weighs 8.4 lbs., like my M1A.

I stand corrected. I had a look at one in the armory it was an Armalite AR 10 (T).

The familiarity of motion aspects of muscle memory seem to transfer for most people. Usually the speed and accuracy aspects do not. The guys who rely on neuro muscular programming(training) the most tell me that they do not want to take a newly configured arm on a mission without hundreds and hundreds of reps with the new configuration.

thats respectable, wonder if a load worked up just for that rifle would get better, Id like to see .5" or better

I didn't tailor those rounds for the DPMS, those are my plinking rounds for my SOCOM. Next week I'm going to load round for this rifle.

Please remember - there is NO standardization of the AR-10 platform - DPMS accessories will probably NOT FIT an ArmaLite AR-10.

The first AR-10 was submitted by ArmaLite (sub-division of FairChild Industries - same company to make the A-10 Thunderbolt "WartHog") to the US Army 2 months too late (1956??) to be considered for replacement of the M1 Garand, so the M14 got it, or it would have been standardized.

After rejection for war production of AR-15's and forced to sell design to Colt due to Colts production capabilities, Fairchild Industries sold ArmaLite and ArmaLite changed hands a few times.

I have an ArmaLite AR-10A2, and love it.
