I recall reading it was a combination of a supplier issue (Lett grip?) and cost; I'll defer to those more knowledgeable on this matter than me though...
Are we talking about the grooveless rubber grips with the wood inserts? If so, I think they stopped selling them with GPs and switched to Hogue Monogrips sometime in 2009, IIRC.
I heard the company that made those grips went out of business. Go to shopruger.com, they the rosewood grips arefor sale again but they are on backorder
