Dan Wesson model 15 - convertible to other calibers?

The Dan Wesson Model 15 is built on what DW calls their "small frame" and are mostly in .38 caliber or below. (.22 LR and WMR for example.)

Dan Wesson .44s are on the DW "large frame."

Do what I did and call up the service department at Dan Wesson. One of the gunsmiths told me that the timing for the cylinders are the same (regarding their large frame revolvers) and that a simple swap of the cylinder is needed. However you do have to look into the pitch and thread of the barrel to the frame if you intend to get another barrel, as it may not fit your prior frame. But once again the guys at DW are knowledgeable and more than ready to help.

I believe it would be possible to switch within small frame centerfire calibers. I would not try this, however. It probably would be better to swap shrouds, with different frames and calibers. Concentrate on getting the different frames and barrels to share.

What caliber would you switch to? Barrels are going to be your limiting factor. Unless your thinking of having one custom made, .38/.357 are all that's available in that frame size, as far as I know.

Each Dan Wesson frame is threaded to only accept the barrels that are the proper caliber for it. In other words, each frame and matching barrels have their own thread pitch. The barrel from a model 15 will only fit a model 15, the barrel from a model 22 (.22LR), model 32 (.32H&R), etc will not screw into a model 15 frame. This also goes for the large frame Dans. On the large frame guns, the barrels from magnum calibers are interchangeable with the supermags. So .44 Mag and .445 SuperMag barrels are interchangeable (though the ejector rod cut-out in a .44 Mag shroud is too short for a SuperMag revolver).

All Dan Wesson components, except for the barrels, will swap within each specific frame size. Barrels, as mentioned, are caliber specific.
The small frame came in .22LR, .22 Mag, .32 H&R, .32-20, .38 Special/.357 Magnum. The .22 cylinders are shorter than the other cylinders.
The large frame came in .360 Dan Wesson, .41 Magnum, .44 Magnum, .460 Rowland and .45 Colt.
The SuperMag frame came in .357 Maximum, .375 Supermag, .414 SuperMag and .445 SuperMag. The SuperMag is the same as the large frame but with a longer frame window and approx. .300" longer cylinder.
