IS this a good trade XD for SW J frame

Im not exactly sure what model it is, but my room mate has a Smith J frame, hammerless in 357. I have an XD tactical 5.5. I believe I paid 550 for it, and have 5 or 6 magazines with it. I just dont like the xd. I'm more of a glock guy when it comes to the polymers. Do you think its worth the trade to trade it straight up for that smith? The smith is a stainless gun. I own a few other stainless smiths and love them. So I'm considering it. Just dont want to lose a bunch of money.
 
Too much depends on the model and age of the S&W. Personal experience with J frames in 357MAG is that the lighter and shorter barreled ones are tough to shoot.
My favorite J frame is the Model 60. Stainless steel and in 38SPL +P.
Value of the XD v S&W J the XD would be a bit more than the J frame. JMHO.
 
Condition of both come into play, values in MY area would have them priced pretty close to each other, maybe $50 difference.
As mentioned, very few I know who shoot a J frame (and I carry a 38+P version) like shooting 357 in such a light gun
 
Just to ad to the previous comments. You can always shoot 38SPL. instead of .357Mag. I would check the lock up on the cylinder if it has a high round count.
 
.357 Magnum J frames are expensive revolvers so money wise you did well. If you like revolvers more than semi-autos for carry then you did very well.

I carry a J frame daily so I consider your trade to be a good one...
 
Some of the scandium and titanium J's go for more than $800 USED!! What model is the J? If you're more inclined towards Glock, make the trade, sell the Smith, buy a Glock, and pocket the difference. That's what I'd do.
 
I talked to my friend, he believes the j frame is a 640. It did lock up well. I don't want to the xds on a Glock if I don't have to. I get glocks relitively cheap thru the Glock le program. I just got the xd cause I load a lot of cast bullets. I shoot a lot of big revolvers, 1911s, etc. The j frame would most likely sit in the safe, or be used to plink some of my light 38 loads. I don't carry concealed often. Usually just a 1911 in a high ride holster and a jacket, if it show it shows don't really bother me

One of my all time favorites is a Model 60-9 in .357. I bought the gun new in 1997. It's been carried and shot a lot. I can say I have never put a .357 down range out of it. I generally carry the standard velocity .38 Specials and have shot .38+Ps a few times. Great thing about the .357 is you have options.

Its all personal preference, but I would rather have the J Frame as the XD.
