Thinkin about trading my G19 for a xd subcompact

I love the 3" XDsc in 9mm. In 40 it is a bit more recoil to tame - some people are fine with the extra recoil, some have an issue with it. The 3" XDsc 9mm is capable of group sizes about 2-3" @ 25 yd.

I also have an 4" XD compact which is comparable in size to your glock 19.

My experience has been that the 3" gun is more versatile since it has similar accuracy, is easy recoil to handle, and is much easier to conceal than a pistol with a 4" barrel with longer grips. If you're simply looking for a duty gun and concealment isn't much of an issue I'd stick to your G19.

Ease of disassembly

OK, I'll admit, I've never field stripped a Glock, but I can't imagine anything much easier than field stripping either my XD's or XDm. I can separate the slide of my XDm from the frame in under a second (not that I would need to do so).
I consider most every mdern handgun, aside from maybe the compact 1911's, as easy to field strip. This includes Ruger MKIII .22's, even. What sets the GLOCK apart is the ease of detail stripping. With the GLOCK all you need is a thin punch/screwdriver/stick for complete disassembly of the gun to individual parts. And the punch is just for easily pushing out machined pins, not for hammering out roll pins. There are no roll pins, no springs that will shoot across the room, and there's no need for tweezers and 3 hands to reassemble it.

But if you're not the handy type, it doesn't matter that an XD wil have to go back to the factory for repair, because that's what you'd do with a GLOCK, anyway. And chances are good neither will ever have a major problem. So if you like the ergos and trigger better, than don't waste too much time worrying about anything else. The price is close enough, and the reputation for reliability and accuracy is solid.

The XD 9mm sub compact is a great shooting 9mm. I don't know I would trade for one, maybe straight up depending on mags/holsters/wear, but I would certainly own one of each. If I was just starting out, I would personally buy the XD over the glock.

I did. And I think the G19 is on of the best balance of power and size out there. But the grip on the XD9 was just so much more comfortable to me. Don't like the Glock's hump on the rear of the grip or finger grooves. If I want finger grooves I'll get some rubber grips. Again not knocking the Glock. It is a classic as far as I'm concerned. XD's grip just works better for me.

I never had a problem racking my XD's slide one-handed. I just gripped it normally and hooked the rear sight on my heel or belt. I was forced to shoot it that way for a few months due to wearing a cast.
You were able to perform at your leisure, as opposed to on demand after being weakened by blood loss, no slippery blood on your hand to affect your grip, or other injury/weakness that compromised your ability to grip the pistol and work the slide with one hand under stress.

HAHAHAHa... UNLESS you have had this situation happen TO YOU and are speaking from first hand experience... anyone can dream up a stupid situation where X gun will fail...

oh my god...that really made me laugh.

...your ability to grip the pistol and work the slide with one hand under stress.

Shawn: You haven't really been very clear - please explain to us exactly how you believe the slide should be racked? How do you work the slide with one hand without using something else to brace or support the gun? In theory you could "whip" it really hard? I've tried that and can't get that to work. The only way I know is to grab the pistol grip with my usable hand and whack the rear sight on my belt, a nearby table, or something similar. Please let us know how you rack your slide using one hand only and no props? Maybe you're thinking of holding the pistol grip in your elbow, armpit or something similar and racking the slide with your good hand?

Why not? The Glock & XD are in the same ballpark price-wise--and if you ever miss the Glock 19, it's a fairly affordable pistol, so it wouldn't be too rough to pick up another one.

Having owned the G19 and XD9SC as well as the G23 and the XD40SC I would say keep your 19.

The only thing that is truly shorted on the XD Subs as compared to the Glocks is the barrel length. I would advise going to a gunshop and laying the two on top of each other and comparing the overall height of the two guns. The XD's are a tad shorter than the Glocks in the actual gripping surface but the dang slide is taller leaving both guns with an almost identical footprint in the holster.

The XD Subcompacts are really subs in name only. This is primarily due to their tall slides and bulky construction. I actually preffered the G19/23 over the XDSC's and sold both XD's in order to fund other purchases. I ended up with a second G26 and a G27 which are what I would recommend if you are wanting a smaller carry gun.

I've tried to like the XDsc - I've twice made up my mind to go get one, and then I hold it, then put it back. In my hands it feels so bulky, it feels poorly balance IMO even with a full mag - it's just not for me. That saying I have a G19 and love it. It's the perfect balance of concealability, accuracy and capacity.

What are yalls thoughts on this trade? I personally feel I will like ccing the xd better than the 19.
The Glock 19 actually conceals easier than the XD subcompact.
The XD isn't really a subcompact....it's just a compact-sized pistol with a short barrel.
The grip, which is the hardest part to conceal on a pistol, is too long.
Instead of shortening the barrel, which is easy to conceal, they should have shortened the grip.

In your opinion is the xd going to be close to the accuracy and reliability I'm getting out of my glock?
I've never noticed any difference in reliability between the two, but I'm actually more accurate with my Glock.
I think the sights on the Glock are easier for my eyes.

I don't like the 26 compared to the xd sub. The xd just feels really comfortable in my hand.
This is because the Glock 26 is truly a subcompact pistol while the XD "subcompact" is actually a compact pistol with a really short barrel.

It's a straight trade too. Should I ask for some cash on top of the trade? Thanks for your input.
I would keep the Glock.

If you don't like your Glock then I would sell it, but if you do like it and trade it for an XD I think you'll end up regretting it. I traded in the first Glock I ever owned which was a G36 toward a SAI 1911 and immediately regretted it.
I now own a G17, G21, G26, and a 2nd Gen G20 ad they would be the last guns I ever traded or sold. Every time I sell or Trade or sell a gun I immediately regret it, so i have made a new rule and that is to never do it again.

My initial impression of Glocks were that they looked like crap and wanted nothing to do with them, but for some reason one day I looked at my collection and needed to put a Glock in it.

Do whatever you want. If you should change your mind, they are both as easy to find as water rings on my coffee table.

Shoot both.

Which one do you shoot better with?

Ok, that one is the best for you.

Problem solved. Both are excellent choices and I wouldn't give an edge in actual accuracy potential to either weapon. It boils down to your choice and what you want and what performs best for you.

FWIW the 19 is slightly bulky to conceal to me. It's just too thick. I found the 26 to be no better. I tried a 26 with a mag extension, which to me seemed like a 19 minus the rail and a tiny bit of length from the slide/barrel. I borrowed a friend's xd9c and his crossbreed holster. I found it to be no more comfortable than the 19 or 26. I do shoot better with an XD, which makes me wonder why I ever bought a glock.
