Im 20 years old and live in Texas. I've been reading about Texas gun laws a lot lately and can't figure out a straight forward enough answer to some of my questions. Being that I am not 21 yet what legal ways are there for me to own a handgun? Thanks in advance and I'm sure il have many more questions in the near future.

You can buy a handgun from a nonlicensee who is also a resident of Texas.
You can be given a handgun as a gift from another resident of Texas.

You cannot give your $$$ to someone to acquire a firearm on your behalf (that is a straw sale and a violation of Federal law).

Dogtown Tom's got it. (Nice to see a FFL who actually knows the law about that :D The ones around me have no clue)

Federally the minimum age of possession is 18 and should be located in 18 USC 922 (x) if you ever need to pull out code to prove that you're not breaking the law.
The Texas statute should be under something referring to "persons forbidden from possessing a pistol."

Thank you very much for the information. My next question is, is it legal for me to have a legally obtained handgun in my vehicle?

Yes i believe Texas castle doctrine covers that.

Texas Castle Doctrine has nothing to do with regulations concerning the carrying of weapons.

My next question is, is it legal for me to have a legally obtained handgun in my vehicle?

According to Title 10 Chapter 46.02 anybody can carry in their vehicle in the state of TX without a permit so long as they meet four conditions:
1. The gun is NOT in the plain view.
2. The person is NOT prohibited by law from possessing it.
3. The person is NOT engaged in criminal activity, other than a class C misdeamenor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic or boating
4. The person is NOT a member of a criminal street gang (as defined by section 71.01)

I think you're probably good to go.
