I've searched and searched the legal section and just can't come up with anything that pertains to my anti-gun state of Illinois. I swear I've read something on this before but I can't seem to find the thread anymore.

My question regards to the 'gifting' laws in Illinois. I know someone under 21 cannot PURCHASE a handgun, nor ammo, but I thought I read somewhere they can be 'gifted' a handgun by someone (ie. family). Is this true, and what other 'gotchas' are present with this law? They would be legally able to possess the gun, as long as they are complying with other IL laws correct? This person would be a valid FOID owner with a clear criminal background.

Regarding ammo, I know they cannot PURCHASE ammo but can they possess handgun ammo, as long as they are complying with other IL laws? I read on the ISP website that they are required to have a letter of consent from their parents; is that all?

Thanks for your help

I just read the IL law, you poor boy...I would leave, and never go back...

anyway, as to the OP..If you are under 21, you may have a weapon if you are "engaged in lawful activities under the wildlife code" subsection 24-2(b)(1) and a couple others.

Gifting = giving, yes.

Not sure what that's supposed to mean or how that applies to this situation
my fault for not reading deep enough. please allow me to wipe the egg from my face.

in regards to the question after reading in full, im not shure how that would play out.
