I wish all Governors were this straight forward about the 2nd amendment

For a bit more background on this, Tampa's mayor has been asking Governor Scott to ban firearms in the city during the Republican National Convention - Governor Scott's response was immediate and decisive - NO.

The mayor is right. Some people running around there won't be model citizens. But we have to allow the politicians to attend. There's no way around it.

I strongly disagree with you that there is any valid reason to deny anyone the right to carry and defend themselves just because there are a pile of career politicians in town. What makes politicians' lives worth any more than yours or mine?

Sorry rail driver I was just poking a little fun at the Mayor. He said something in the article about some of the people in the area not being model citizens and he wouldn't want guns falling into the wrong hands.

My joke was trying to indicate that the politicians were less than model citizens.

You know a joke is bad when you have to explain it.

Thanks guys I'm glad you got it. Actually I think Gov. Scott is great and this is just the sort of response I would expect from him. I'm in Sarasota and he is a well liked and respected gentleman.

Ok, I laughed after you explained it - I'm a bit off today for various reasons including my 3 year old son deciding that his fish needed my last pack of cigarettes submerged in his fishbowl. :neener:

Eh, the more political power someone has, the bigger the target they are. So while they might not be any more important than you or I, by being a bigger target there is a greater likelihood that someone will want to attack them.

With that said, banning CCW temporarily is just plain dumb, unless you're banning it within the convention center.

“It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress.” Mark Twain
I laughed and got the joke immediately

The only way that those people having guns is bad is if they do criminal things with them. If they are criminals, then why would they care about a CCW "ban"?

What's not in the linked story is that Florida has a preemption law in effect. It would be against state law for the Governor to comply with the Mayor's illegal order to ban carry, something Florida Carry has been slapping cities pretty hard with since the preemption law passed.

Gov. Scott has been vilified by the media from day one.
He must be doing a great job, because the MSM is having fits!
Scott has my vote of confidence.

He certainly has, and he certainly is. He's taken a good bit of flack, but everything he's done has been pretty darn good in my opnion, from trying to get state workers to contribute to their pension, to getting us out of that "high-speed" train boondoggle, and now this. He's got my vote come 2014.

I got it right away! :D

Living in Florida (Bradenton) has its drawbacks...Hurricanes, Tourists, Old people..(God's waiting room)... but it is sure nice having a Governor (Scott) and Senators like Rubio to get behind. We do have some HORRIBLE ones as well but hopefully they will be culled in the next round of elections!

What I found REALLY interesting......it being reported in the Chicago Tribune. The most anti gun city in the world.
